Hi all. I just got the Planescape Setting, with some expansion sets.
I'm DMing a Prime Material based campaign. My psionicist is just going to learn powers like "astral projection" and "probability travel". That will bring him in the Astral Plane and (maybe) some friend's of him too.
So, reading "A Guide to Astral Plane" I discovered something strange about time passing.
The rulebook says no time passes, and a body does not feel hungry (becouse time does not pass), a body will not regenerate lost hp at a normalrate, but only magic, 'couse time does not pass.
So, it is possible to heal only by magic.
That's all.
And what about studying spells? Or recovering Psionic Strenght Points?
How does a Gith recover PSPs?
Gith also have new, cute spells... How to refresh them?

If spells and PSPs are not refreshable, I think no Gith would be a warlok or a psionicist, since you must exit the plane, age, and enter again. While knogts and warriors are immortals and never need aging.

Ok, ok, I know: it's a Clueless question, but, pls, can some of you answer?

That works as normal. Sleeping and other acts that involve mainly the mind aren't changed in the Astral Plane.

The githyanki go to sleep, when they wake up they refresh their spells.

i have a question. If the astral plane is timeless, has time passed when you returned to another plane, or do you return to exactly when you left, regardless of the length of your stay on the astral?

The impression i get is that time passes normally elsewhere, so that if you spent three perceived hours on the astral the same amount of time would have passed everywhere else, but if that's the case then it's not really timeless at all.

Interesting.
So: recovering spells and Psionic Strenght Points is normal, becouse it is a matter of mind.
Recovering hit points is impossible, becouse it's a matter of matter.

And... sleeping... interesting...
In a matter related timelessness, body catabolites should not accumulate (as they are a matter of matter). So, a body should never be sleepy...

Maybe I'm thinking just as a Prime Clueless! ;)

Your impression is right. Three subjective hours in the Astral Plane is the same as three hours anywhere else. It's timeless in the sense that you don't age or need to eat, breathe, or drink in the time you spend in the Astral Plane. You can spend thousands of years there and not age a day or take a single breath.

Once you return to another plane, however, thousands of years will have passed and you'll suddenly age thousands of years. Assuming you can survive that (and some creatures can), you'll be really hungry and thirsty (but you won't die of hunger or thirst). And you might take a deep gasping breath of air.

Your body is never sleepy, but your mind still needs to dream.
