Placing the "super modules" in Mystara

I've been thinking of getting the classic super-modules of T1-4, A1-4, and GDQ1-7 (probably the PDFs as the real ones usually go for too much on eBay). Since I don't have them, and have never played them, could they be placed in Mystara without too much work? Where would you change the locations too?

Right off the bat, the drow parts of GDQ1-7 seem like the hardest to deal with, but could it be changed as a way to introduce the shadow elves? Any other large stumbling blocks?

Anybody ever used these in Mystara? How did it go?

Temple of Elemental Evil can go almost anywhere. Part of me says it would be kind of cool to have it in one of the wilder areas of Glantri, as they would have sacked it with vast eagerness for destroying CLERICS who dared enter Glantri

For a twist, though, you could put it in Karameikos and replace Thrommel with the REAL Stefan Karameikos, who has been imprisoned there for decades...

Replace Iuz with the Master of the Desert Nomads, and Zuggtomoy could be a Entropic.

The Slaver's series (A1-4) is trickier, as while the Broken Lands makes a decent Pomarj, it isn't on the ocean. Not sure.

Against the Giants / Against the Drow / Queen of the Demonweb Pits--Substitute Modrigswerg for the Drow, start off the adventures in Vestland. Lloth could be the entropic immortal who corrupted the Modrigswerg.

I know that retrofitting the Temple of Elemental Evil has been the subject of a number of posts on the MML. A quick search of the archives here at Wizards will reveal some solutions- notably, this post and its responses, as well as this one.

Most suggestions for ToEE that I've seen have been to set it in or around Karameikos, or Wendar (the village of Hommlet seems very similar to the village of Geron, and the mood/theme of X11 and ToEE are likewise similar.)

Against the Giants might do well in Norwold- I'm not that familiar with the series, so I'm just going on generalities- but the Fire Giants' Steading could be located around the volcanoes in the Icereach Range, and the Frost Giants could be located anywhere near there or Frosthaven. Not sure how that would work out with the drow, though, who are (as I understand it) the masterminds behind the whole thing.

If you wanted to use the entirety of the GDQ module, maybe you could have the shadow elves as instigators of Giants in the Orclands of Darokin- spurring them and the humanoids on to attack the elves of Alfheim (or humans of Darokin), which draws the adventurers into things. You could then substitute Atzanteotl for Lolth, and have the shadow elves responsible be more militant types who are attacking the surface world (perhaps going as far up the food chain as Xatapechtli, the leader of the Second Shadow, who is being influenced by Atzanteotl by way of his magical cloak).

Scourge of the Slave Lords I would think would be able to work in the Ierendi/Karameikos area. Make the Slave Lords a cell (or group of cells) of Iron Ring agents and set the first couple of modules in and around Karameikos, and the finale on an island in the Sea of Dread. Alternatives could be the Slave Lords are a ring of slavers competing with the Iron Ring, or you could probably even move the whole thing to Sind, and have the slavers come from Jaibul and operate in the seas outside of that region.

I know that Gaz2 mentions using Ylaruam for a setting for the Deserts of Desolation series, which could work.

Hmm... now you've got me wondering how to retrofit all the old "classic" modules. More to come!

We played the entire Deserts of Desolation series (three 1st E AD&D modules) last year and had a heck of a time! It was epic fun!

Only problem was, I had to greatly reduce the distances in the module to make it fit into the Great Salt Basin. IMO in retrospect it would fit better into the wastes of Sind or something similar.

Thinking further about this, I'd probably replace the Aspis (in A1) with Hivebrood, to retain the "Mystara" feel.

You could even "pad" it out by running Escape from the Black Eagle Barony somewhere in there- have the heroes captured by the Iron Ring and sold to the BE.

Not quite sure how you'd do S1-4. Obviously, Expedition to the Barrier peaks could easily fit into Mystara, in the sense that the wrecked spaceship could be either the Beagle or otherwise related to it (a ship that was sent to find it, another ship in the Federation).

Tomb of Horror... possibly make it the tomb of Haptuthep (from VotPA fame) and set it on the Isle of Dawn?

White Plume Mountain- can go anywhere, really. The weapons within... not sure offhand how they could fit into Mystara cosmology.

As for the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, I'm afraid I don't know enough about that module to say, and can't seem to find much information online.

The Iron Ring! Duh, I should have thought of that.

The weapons in White Plume Mountain are all low key enough to fit fine in Mystara. Just tinker their histories a bit.

The lost Caverns would be tricky, as it involves Iuz's parents, who are tied to Greyhawk. So you'd have to change things. Iuz's parents are Iggwilv the Witch and Grazzt the Demon Lord. Iuz could be changed into whatever master villain your campaign uses, and the Iggwilv could be a former 4th circle master of the art of Witchcraft who spawned said villain; put her caverns somewhere in Glantri.

Against the Giants might do well in Norwold

AtG can be put just about anywhere. All three are "go kill all of the hill/frost/fire giants" modules. I think setting them in northern Karameikos would work. The Hill Giant's Steading could be somewhere in the hills southeast Duke's Road Keep. The Glacial Rift could be in the mountains to the northeast of Castellan Keep and the Hall of the Fire Giant King could be southeast of Castellan Keep near where the Highreach River exits the mountains.

To make it more interesting, you could have a combined giant invasion of Karameikos that sacks eveything from Castellan to Kelvin. This would provide motivation for the PCs to go through these modules and additional adventuring material. It would be a Karameikos retrofit of the Against the Giants: The Liberation of Geoff 25th anniversary module.

The links don't work. Can you tell me where to find them and I'll track them down.

Hmm. That's not good.

In any case, just go to the community section of this site (Wizards.com), go to the Discussion Lists portion, click on Archives, find the Mystara-L archives, and then do a search. I think I just searched "Temple of Elemental Evil" and got quite a number of hits.
