#1zeroeffectApr 04, 2006 15:14:00 | Who are the most powerful warriors in Krynn? One of my characters is looking to raise an army to rival the minotaurs. So far, the Tarmak are my only idea... |
#2cam_banksApr 04, 2006 16:14:17 | Ogres are stronger than either Tarmak or minotaurs, when you get down to it. Cheers, Cam |
#3zeroeffectApr 04, 2006 17:00:36 | Thanks. Now I just need to figure out a way to get them to follow my wizard. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |
#4zombiegleemaxApr 04, 2006 17:30:09 | Thanks. Now I just need to figure out a way to get them to follow my wizard. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. lots and lots and lots of steel, and probably some food. |
#5zombiegleemaxApr 05, 2006 0:28:48 | As my title hinted, I think I might be able to trump Cam's suggestion of Ogres as the strongest warriors. I will grant that physically they might well be superior, but for sheer lethality my suggestion is draconians. They come in all types and sizes, they have their own magic-users(so they'll be likely to work with a powerful wizard), they don't need to be fed often, they have their own natural armor and weapons, and best of all you can make them yourself!(see the Create Draconians feat from the War of the Lance rulebook for details). |
#6cam_banksApr 05, 2006 6:05:14 | Well, sure, if you want troops that blow up and take out others around them when they die and you have the secret to creating them, you could go with draconians. Cheers, Cam |
#7rath_the_rangerApr 05, 2006 8:10:41 | lots and lots and lots of steel, and probably some food. Steel in the form of weapons and armor would probably work best, plus plenty strong drink to go along with the food. |
#8zombiegleemaxApr 05, 2006 10:01:34 | Ogres are very strong... I agree with Cam on this. Problem with ogres is that they need a fine leader. If your DM is open enough u could use an ogre mage or even a titan, take some sorcerer levels and then legendary tactician. U can consider Centaurs!!! They´re strong and agile, and far more verastile than the ogres: front fighters, archers, druids/shamans, bards, rangers. And units could move faster than those mounted. Think of it.... of course, i'm not sure of their numbers, maybe there aren´t so many to form a army, but that's up to your DM to decide. |
#9darthsylverApr 05, 2006 13:39:14 | Spoiler My suggestion is find a way to enthrall Golgren. He is the leader of both ogre nations and even has the ogre titans under his control, this is as of the Minotaur war series. He also is already rivaling the minotaurs as he brokered an alliance and then broke it of when it no longer suited him. He has an obsession with the High Ogres, and trying to recreates this nation. If the wizard could use this obsession to control him, or if the wizard simply charmed him and stayed to the background then he might be able to accomplish his goal. |
#10zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2006 21:13:17 | F'han, Uruv Suurt! Seriuosly, go with ogres. If one of your party members is an ogre (I am in my party) have him be leader of the army.If not, just ask Golgren to help you. No spells needed. He doesn't like minotaurs anywhay.(prostrate yourselves properly, of course. Also, if no one in the party has any ogre blood, give him a super-powerful magic weapon as a gift, and pray to whatever gods you worship.) |
#11zeroeffectApr 27, 2006 21:26:28 | Ogre is a great suggestion, but it won't work for my particular case. My character is a Dark Elf (former Silvanesti) Black Robe. He HATES Ogres. Ogres aren't too fond of him either. I've considered trying to rally the Elves but they're extremely divided, and they're negatively disposed towards my character. The only other military forces that I've come across seem hard pressed to defend their own terroritories. |
#12zeroeffectApr 28, 2006 7:07:57 | I'm still at a loss as to what to do. I may have to give up on my dream of reclaiming Silvanost from the minotaurs. |
#13zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2006 20:43:38 | Dunno what time your playing but never discount Knights of Solomnia. All you'd really have to do, since your a black robe, is convince a white robe of your intent of reclaiming Silvanost, and then have them convince the Knights. Or you could even use a bit of trickery to try to make the Knights think it was their idea. Just a thought. |
#14zeroeffectApr 28, 2006 21:16:11 | We're playing in the late Age of Mortals, after the War of Tears. The Knights of Solamnia seem to be hard pressed to defend their territories. Over the last few sessions we've run into refugees from Solamnia who were forced to flee because the Knights were unable to protect them adequately from hobgoblins and the like. |
#15darthsylverApr 29, 2006 20:19:01 | Suggest you have your Black Robed Dark Elf impersonate an ogre and get Golgren to fight the minotaurs for you. This would be something the a dark elf wizard would love. To have two enemies he hates, fight each other and then he comes along after to destroy the winner. Now I know it sounds a little cliche-ish, but how do you think cliches are made. |
#16zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2006 22:22:27 | So you guys are saying that an ogre named Golgren has managed to conquer the Ogre Titans, Dauroth, and both Kern and Blode? Also how would he respond to a Black Robed Irda? Considering someone said he was obsessed with the High Ogres. |
#17zeroeffectApr 30, 2006 1:38:55 | So you guys are saying that an ogre named Golgren has managed to conquer the Ogre Titans, Dauroth, and both Kern and Blode? Also how would he respond to a Black Robed Irda? Considering someone said he was obsessed with the High Ogres. From what I understand, Golgren was instrumental in creating the Ogre Titans. He's kind of the mastermind behind the whole affair. |
#18cam_banksApr 30, 2006 7:35:32 | From what I understand, Golgren was instrumental in creating the Ogre Titans. He's kind of the mastermind behind the whole affair. No, that was Dauroth, an ogre mage, and now an ogre titan himself. Cheers, Cam |
#19zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2006 12:03:27 | Well, I still think you could get ogres to help you. Here is the plan. Golgren hated minotaurs, but still likes Maritia. Just get him to like you(preferably without magic), and no ogre will bother you. In roleplay issues, anything for the homeland, right? Of course, once the minotaurs are defeated, you would have to give the ogres at least half of Silvanesti, but it's better than nothing, right? Of course, they might betray you, but...on second thought, go with the thanoi. They are a lot weaker than ogres, but could kill Tarmaks or minotaurs pretty well. You would have to unite some tribes, but it could work. Plus, they are pretty stupid, so you could get them to fight one another, then come in with the rest of the elves and kill them all. |
#20darthsylverMay 01, 2006 3:07:33 | Spoilers. Yes Dauroth discovered the way to make ogres into Ogre titans. Golgren discovered that they needed a constant supply of elves every month to make the change permanent and has kinda of got a stranglehold on them through this. Golgren also had a pact with the minotaurs during the Minotaur wars but eventually betrayed them, and yes he kinda has a crush on Maritia. (I think that had more to do with the fact that she was the emperor's daughter than any beauty there, and he figured he might be able to rule the minotaurs through her, just my opinion now). |
