#1st_gulikApr 12, 2006 17:22:54 | Hello Everyone! I recently agreed to play under a great GM in a Ravenloft game. I normally am a GM and it's been a good two years since I've run a D20 game let alone played in one so I am a little nervous...and it's been about 4 or 5 years since I've played in Ravenloft (it was a musketeer like game with beheadings and burgomeisters). Now we're going to play in a new realm that I know very little about, and as a good player (since I'm a good GM I don't want to ruin any of it for myself) I haven't done any looking around the Ravenloft settings. We're going to play in a place called Forlorn and our GM said that there are lots of druids and Ranger types there, so if we're into we can play those sorts of characters. Which brings me to my question: I have been eyeing the Shaman since it first came out and absolutely love the concept! =) I've always prefered playing sorcerors over wzards anyday and I really like the idea of the Spirit Guide and druidic like Shaman with spontanious casting, and as a Druid I've never gone with the Wild Shaping anyways. So my question is is a Shaman VIABLE in the Ravenloft Setting, particularly Forlorn. Thanks, Saint Gulik |

Uh oh.. ahem, you should be in for some interesting situations to say the least :evillaugh Small tip: this is a celtic/highlander-like culture (originally, that is) so you may want to tailor your character to fit. If so, yes, I think it would be very viable in RL, and Forlorn in particular. That said, that class has some very powerful abilities given the kind of adversaries you can face in the RL setting so I would be very surprised indeed if your DM didn't "nerf" it in some way. Better clear that up with him beforehand rather than have an ugly surprise when the game starts. Another small tip: were I you, I would be leery of a "spirit guide" in Ravenloft. As a RL DM, that's the first think I would "tinker" with. So, better safe than sorry... ;) |

Yes, I am, interestingly though it says that the Spirit Guide has no actual game effect, it's all in your head. Don't tell me anymore! I don't want to get any ideas about Forlorn! I want to be surprised, but thanks for the potential nerfing. =P I'm thinking of making the Spirit Guide a 'Questing Beast' ala Arthurian Legends. |
