Athas Online has had a facelift today. Version 3 of my Dark Sun website is now up. Please a take look and give me some quick feedback whether it works for you or not. I´ve tested it in Firefox.

A new element is the RSS feed subscription option. I haven´t used RSS feeds before, so I´m not certain how that function is supposed to work. Hence I don´t know if it working or not (any help with that would be welcome).

Btw, Raven, I forgot to ask you permission. Can I use your Scorcher picture (the one you did for Dregoth Ascending) on my site? I used it when experimenting with the layout and haven´t removed it yet. If yes, do you have a signed version of it with a transparent background? If you don´t want me to use it, I´ll remove it asap.

The site looks good, but it acts a little funny every time I click on a link. When loading the new page, it first loads the whole thing but the colors are a little jumbled, and my browser stops responding... then, about 5-10 seconds later, the colors are fixed and my browser works again.

Is this just me?

It's very nice, but it doesn't feel like Athas at all. It feels very friendly and reminds of a website for quilting or postcards. sorry but I have to give it a :thumbsdow

I have to agree with Sage on this one. While it's a nice clean site that's well laid out, it doesn't really have the feel of Athas much. I didn't have any trouble with it loading myself (IE 6).

On a side note, how is the Intel based? I'm sometimes hate to admit it, but I'm an Intel man myself for Windows, Linux, and BeOS, but from my Mac time I have to say I was appalled when I heard them using Intel chips. (And yes, I know all about the merits of Athlon, my flatmate and wife both use them in the machines I built for them, Intel is just a habit I can't break.)

Yeah I have to agree with Sage, it reminds me of an old photoalbum at my grandmother's house. Doesn't quite have the Athasian edge...sorry...

But no problem loading the site...

I'd argue Jon knew what he was doing when he created the layout and background graphics for the site, so he's probably not asking weither it "feels athasian enough" for the fans.

But...if he were to ask that (Jon?), I'd say just add a few athasian things on the front page, maybe a photomontage of a real metal medallion half stuck in the sand, with a symbol for Dark Sun photoshoped on its surface. That would keep the real-world feel of this current version of Athas Online and yet indicate its affiliation with the setting.

A smarter person than me could find other, better ways that don't involve turning Jon's site into a parody of a Dark Sun fan site, with Brom art placarded all over the front page...

Sorry, I misinterpreted the request...I thought he was asking what we thought of the site, as in if we like the style of it... :embarrass

If that's not the fact of the matter, then my answer is: "It's very good, works perfect. I had no problems with any page of it."

The pic of the scorcher is cool though...

But is it as cool as Stonecutter-

Well it might be- but is was drawn by greyorm as well :D

Jon- like your site and think it is a unique take- K.I.S (keep it simple) is a good motto. It is the content that we come to see, not what pretty backgrounds you have, though I do like the subtileness of the image in back. I have some photos of the desert I should scan and send to you to add to your collection.

I knew I´d get penalized for working off a template. :P

It was really just a 2.5 hour experiment with the preinstalled webdesign software that came with the Mac. Some of the features were cool, but thanks for slaughtering the graphics. I´ll see if I can do something about them, but it´s easier said than done with the template.

What browser are you using, which OS and what kind of connection?

Jon, you have my permission to use the Scorcher image -- I'd appreciate a link back to my site in exchange! As to the transparency, I'll see if I can find/make a copy with a transparent background for you, just let me know what size you would like.

Er, yes ... well.

That would be because the DNS entries just got updated and it's pointing to the new server now.

And, I'm not really in the habit of putting www. in front of domain names when going to a web site, and so (of course) I forgot to configure the server to respond to the www. ...

Short version: Just go to http://athas.org and you get to the site just fine. I'll update the configs when I get home from work...

I got rid of the picture frames. Did that help? If not, I´m considering doing the whole page in black.
