#1kalthandrixApr 20, 2006 20:22:37 | One of my players, freakboy9, who playes the dwarven sun cleric named Baranus in my campaign, did some photoshop work and put this picture together for his character, who is sort of learning bits and pieces of lore that may, or may not, lead him to become and Elemental Ascendant (that is what I am calling it). Check it out. |
#2master_ivanApr 20, 2006 20:26:12 | WHOA! The dude's on fire, man! Awesome! |
#3cnahumckApr 20, 2006 21:37:02 | seeing that picture makes me want the elemental AB's even more than before. there aren't enough words to describe how increadibly cool that is. |
#4DragonhelmApr 20, 2006 22:03:42 | That's amazing! Boy, my Dark Sun vibe is kicking in tonight. |

#8zombiegleemaxApr 21, 2006 6:29:51 | Hi guys. Thanks for checking it out. Here is my offical legal stament about the art. The artwork contains material from other peoples work, used without permission. The 'fire guy' is a modified take on the Trivium - Blue Angel wallpaper by Paul Allender. http://www.trivium.org/images/media/wallpapers/blueangel_1280.jpg The Blue Angel wields the Trivium 'dagger', of which the design would belong to the Band. http://www.trivium.org/ The artwork also contains the Dark Sun logo, modified to be more transparent for effect. This ‘criminalization’ and ‘destruction of perfectly good artwork’ was done out of admiration for the original content, and wanting to bring lots of cool things together in one place. Hey, if you like something, why not ruin it? Huh? / It was done strictly for private enjoyment, outside the realm of legal repercussions. The art can’t be used for anything official, but I was perhaps planning on printing it out and sticking it in a binder front cover to give a face lift to a printed copy of Dark Sun rules found at http://athas.org/releases/. Pennarin called it – there is hardly any dwarf proportion to the ‘fire guy’. I considered scaling him to be more dwarf-like; but my attempts just didn’t look right and decided to quit defiling the other man’s art any further. The art was done in sprit to the character, but not entirely in exact details. The Trivium dagger appears similar to the divine focus sun dagger that my character has and added further ‘awesomeness’ of wanting to use the Blue Angel as a foundation. The bands latest release is titled Ascendancy, which reminds me of the Elemental Ascension that Kalthandrix was referring too. If you would like, you can check out a few of the songs from the band’s website: They are a modern hard rock/metal band, so ‘consider yourself warned’. Trivium Ascendancy - 2005 Label: Roadrunner Records Like Light to the Flies http://www.roadrun.com/shared/downloads/Trivium/Trivium-LikeLightToTheFlies.mp3 Lyrics http://darklyrics.com/lyrics/trivium/ascendancy.html#7 Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr http://www.roadrun.com/shared/downloads/Trivium/Trivium-PullHarderOnTheStringsOfYourMartyr.mp3 Lyrics http://darklyrics.com/lyrics/trivium/ascendancy.html#3 While listening to the CD recently I was encouraged to visit the bands website and it all went downhill from there. In particular, it was during the song Like Light to the Flies that inspired me to come up with some new [stolen] one-liners that my Dark Sun character loves to use. I can only fear for my fellow players during out next play session. Those who run will be burned -Baranus/Freakboy9 |
#9nytcrawlrApr 21, 2006 7:07:19 | If you would like, you can check out a few of the songs from the band’s website: More like Death Metal, but people outside of the metal realm usually can't distinguish between the two. Damn Death Metal heads. Never did like that sub-genre of metal. :P Cool pic though! |
#10kalthandrixApr 21, 2006 21:15:46 | Just had to post this too- this is the heron-marked blade from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. My wife bought it for me for our 5 year wedding anniversary [after months of my clever marketing campaign of having the catalog out, open to that page, and proped up on one of my book cases]. Now nothing says love like three feet of high carbon steel with a full tang :D |
#11zombiegleemaxApr 22, 2006 6:09:34 | It's offical, next DS session is LARP style with real swords. I can already feel the sun burning my soul for saying that. |
#12kalthandrixApr 22, 2006 6:42:37 | It's offical, next DS session is LARP style with real swords. Seeing as I am the only one with swords- I win :D |
#13zombiegleemaxApr 24, 2006 12:47:10 | I vaugley remember having a similar conversation before. No one ever did show up to game with paintball markers... |
#14ZardnaarApr 24, 2006 18:48:18 | It's offical, next DS session is LARP style with real swords. When I win lotto my shout to some of the bleaker parts of the Aussie outback for the real LARP DS adventure. Bags being the Templar who can cast flamestrike. Now where did I leave my flamethrower? |
#15zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2006 9:57:39 | I still say we should see how many swings it takes it kill incapacitate each of us. I figure I don't have a strength modifer, so each time I whack you its like 3-4 dmg. (1d6) I'm guessing Dakken tops out with 24 hp. |
#16cnahumckApr 25, 2006 18:03:27 | of course, if you really want to know, take an axe and walk up to a horse (of the appropriate type) and see how many hits it takes before it goes down. Make sure that you don't go for that called shot though... (slaps himself silly) wait a minute, on second thought, maybe you shouldn't check that out.... :D |
#17ZardnaarApr 26, 2006 2:14:31 | I still say we should see how many swings it takes it kill incapacitate each of us. Most of us are probably level 2-3 commoners and experts with skill focus:Knowledge RPGs. Think we're screwed really. |
#18zombiegleemaxApr 26, 2006 7:12:48 | Well, can't says that commoner isnt a fun class to play. It's not always about the combat Anyways, who has a spare horse? |
