Alright, I'm going to be running my group (who has never read the DL books) through the War of the Lance. Gonna be pretty much from the Chronicles, but of course it depends on players choices. Its going to be my group instead of the original Heroes. However, I would like to put in a lot of the characters. Characters like Verminaard andSoth and such. Anyway, my question is, where can I find stats for characters from the Chronicles? Would like as many as possible. Don't need characters like High Bulp or William the Inn owner or Otik. But the main guys for sure. Thanks for any help. Its very appreciated.

Anything in a format I don't have to spend $45 on?

Nothing official, no. You may try looking through the fan conversions and writeups at http://www.dl3e.com for characters you're trying to get stats for.

To be honest, I bought the War of the Lance Supplement on a whim at Gen Con so I could have something for Weis and Hickman to sign... and it ended up being the best purchase I made that con. Just a great supplement, and a beautifully well put together book, and all of the stats for the main characters were right on. Sorry for tooting the horn, but really it made all the difference in my War of the Lance campaign.

Alright. Starting the campaign this weekend. And book wont get here for another 2 weeks. So, I need some ideas on what classes should be allowed during the War of the Lance era. Automatically, no mystics and no sorcerors. And no true druids, based off another thread. And should I limit Kender to being only rogues? Thanks for any help.

And no true druids, based off another thread.

That kind of depends on when you start the campaign. Officially, no druids till Goldmoon becomes the first "true" cleric, yes. Officiously, who's to say how gods operate? After all, if Mishakal could have "secret" clerics on Taladas for years prior to the War, why wouldn't the other gods try to pull the same stunt? Especially those concerned mainly by Nature.

They could justify it by thinking "Well, I'm not bringing back divine magic for the benefit of sentient species but for the animals/plants so I'm not really breaking any rule".

Nature suffered too during the Cataclysm so I could very well see Chislev bringing back a few true druids just to make sure there would still be a planet to take care of when mortals finally welcome back the gods.

eh, guess i could see it. And I'm going to run them through the actualy events of the war of the lance from the books. Thanks to Cam, I've gotten hold of the original campaign and such. So, essentially, they are starting right at the beginning..=)

I'm playing in a similar early War of the Lance campaign where one of the players has chosen to play a druid. He won't have any spells until someone (probably ourselves) rediscovers the lost gods, but that doesn't mean he'll be useless until then. A lot of the druid's abilities are extraordinary abilities. Since they're not really magical, the DM has ruled that the character can have access to all those Ex abilities from teh start. Before level 5, by which time we might have access to divine magic, this includes Animal Companion, Nature Sense, Wild Empathy, Woodland Stride, Trackles Step, and Resist Nature's Lure. Everything but spells, actually. And with good saves, and decent hp, BAB, and skills, he'll have his place in the party.

As for other classes, there should be no Clerics, no Paladins, no Mystics, and no Bards or Sorcerer (spontaneous/ambiant arcane magic won't be discovered until after the War of Chaos). Rangers wouldn't have access to spells until the gods return. There's no reason why kenders shoudl be limited to rogues. They lack the discipline to become monks or wizards, but they can work fine as almost everything else. Kronn Thissleknot, a kender hero of the War of the Lance, is officially stated as a 12th-level barbarian. A few years after the War of the Lance, there will even be a few NG kender clerics of Paladine (or Fizban, as some like to call him).

I'll tell you if we ever play again. We ran the prologue three months ago and haven't done anything since. Apparently our DM still isn't done writing the next session. The campaign has great potential and I just love DragonLance, but I just don't see when we'll play next. I'll let you know once we've played the second chapter.

Marcus, if you read that, go write your game. I want to try my gully dwarf ranger.

Yeah, yeah. I'm getting to it. I've been busy with work, school, and an internship, but that's over now (well, except for work anyway). I'll have the game ready for when Cath comes back from Japan. Prologue #2: Forging the Soul.

Its simply amazing. None of my players ever read the books. And all I did was give them the background that came with the original module. They decided to play the actual original heroes. And the guy playing Raist is actually starting to lean toward white robes, Sturm is turning into a sort of anti-paladin, and is threatening to leave the group to join the draconian armies. Tanis and Caramon aren't getting along cause of Kitiara, and Flint and Tas can't stand each other, cause they are both in love with Goldmoon. I'm having a blast playing them through this. Right now they are getting to Xak Tsorath after meeting Forestmaster. I'll keep ya updated.

Flint and Tas in love with Goldmoon?
How does Riverwind react to that?

I got it at GenCon last year. I'd say as well that the book is worth the $45 bucks The artwork, layout and material are fantastic, even if you don't run a DL campaign like me And just buy it for fun

It was a very well done book with the art and the layout. Some more editing might have been nice, eg having Pyrite as a CE gold dragon. THis isnt Eberreon people!

You're right. It's not Eberreon, nor is it Eberron. But Pyrite is kind of senile, I think you'll agree.

Oh heavens, a creature that isn't a stereotype and can actually change its alignment to fit its personality. Oh nos! The world is doomed!

Creatures can have different alignments than what's stated in the MM. No really, they can.
