Spoilers for Trail of the Black Wyrm.

Now I know that officially Psionics do not exist in Krynn, but the Taladas series has the Yaggol (DL Mind flayers) using telepathy, mind domination, and other psionic powers. Now Chris (Pierson, the taladas series author) has written the Kingpriest trilogy, Spirit of the Wind, Dezra's Quest, and has worked on both the Legends and the Holy Orders of the Stars sourcebooks so he has got to know the Psionics are not supposed to exist in Krynn. So will someone please give me an explanation for what is going on around here. Or are we just going to chalk it all up to mysticism.

The Yaggol are a degenerate sub race of mind flayers. There psionic powers have all but dried up, but what little is left is for the most part psionic. They have been around since the Time of Dragons box set circa 1989.

Psionics have finally returned!!!!!!

Now my Psionic armies shall march upon all of Krynn!!!

Seriously though, who knows of the source of their powers? They could just be spell-like abilities or they could be full blown Psionic powers(my preference).

Unless I'm mistaken(which I might be, I don't have my Monster Manual 3.5 right now) the issue of Psionics or Magic only comes up when using the information from the Complete Psionics Handbook. In the Monster Manual, the Mind Flayer's 'psionic powers' are described as magical (spell-like, and supernatural). Then comes the issue of how Psionics and Magic interact....

Anyways, while on the surface they seem to be psionics, they are technically magical. Otherwise they wouldn't be affected by spell resistance, and they couldn't be dispelled.

but the Taladas series has the Yaggol (DL Mind flayers)

You just convinced me to buy the book. I can't believe the Yaggol finally appears in a novel. It was my favorite monster of the Time of the Dragon boxed set

I believe the trilogy will cover most people and lands of the taladas continent.
The first book talked about the League of Minotaurs, Thenol, The Uigan of the Tamire, The Armach-Nesti, The Ilquar Goblins and the Wild Elves of the Dreaming Green (in Northern Hosk) and it mentioned the Finawar dwarves.

The Second further explored the Armach-Nesti, the League of Minotaurs and introduced the Marak Kender, the Cha'asi and the Yaggol of Neron, the Ice People of the Panak and Mentioned the Kings of the Rainward Isles and inferred that we would be going to the Burning Sea in book three.

The books also give us some history (not much mind you) about Old Aurim before the cataclysm.

The only cultures that I can see so far that were skipped were the shark-men of the fisheries and the cultures of the upper panak. But other than those it looks like Chris has and or will cover (or at least mention) all the races, cultures and lands of Taladas in the series.

As far as for quality, let's just saw that I picked up Trail of the Black Wyrm and a day and a half later I was finished and drooling for book three.

I really hope a 3.5 Taladas Campaign Setting book comes out after the completion of the trilogy.

That would be nice (and it is long, long, loooonnnnggggg overdue).

No what would be really nice is to see Taladas including in the upcoming Races of Krynn book.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you...because the book is called "Races of Ansalon." :D

Book 2 did mention the shark cultists of the fisheries. It casually mentioned how the armies of the League had attempted an invasion of the lands of shark-headed demon worshipping fishing folk in southern Taladas but had fared poorly due to the jungle environment. :D

The only upper Panak culture I recall from the boxed set was the Ice People, which book 2 covered.

The box set also mentions the Glass Sailors and the Saqualaminoi as being in the upper panak.

Both of those peoples were mentioned in book 2, though they altered the name slightly of the Saqualaminoi. The Glass sailors aren't in the upper panak, they're in the Shining Lands, which is nearly adjacent to the Burning Sea.

Is this the reason that they are putting the yaggol out in the updated version of the Bestiary?

Though it doesnt relate to these books (though I am in the middle of reading book two, I had just got to the part with the Yaggol, thats so neat..) I have a thread concerning a revamping of the setting after the age of mortals which includes psionics, if anyone is interested.
