I have a PDF of Against the Giants, and I don't recall seeing this map? Did the hardcopy incllude it? If not, I wonder if this is foreshadowing for the next classic adventure 3.5 conversion.

This is definitely a new map. Too bad they didn't release it when I was running G1 last year. Oh well, I'm still interested in seeing their conversion.

Interesting.. if they go for the old G1 adventure, I wonder how they'll "rescale" it to take into account the deadliness of 3e giants (compared to what they were back in 1e)

Conveniently, I'm currently running the Istivin campaign arc from Dungeon Magazine. I even downloaded WotC's free online adventure "The Crumbling Hall of the Frost Giant Jarl."

Elendur:
I just finished running G1 two weeks ago!

Still, the maps could be useful for the players, since they've got some idea about turning it into a base to control a trail through the Jotens. (Which could have some intriguing campaign development consequences for me.)
And I wouldn't mind if 3.5 conversions of the whole series joined Tomb of Horrors and White Plume Mountain.

This is a dressed up version of the original 1978 black and white version(with rooms and fireplaces/fire pit only). This has some doors missing. It would have been nice to have when I ran it.

The players didn't think of using it as a base, they're not much for settling down. The giant war was ongoing at that point so I had the army pull the stedding down. I figured its remote location made it more likely to be retaken by giant forces.

However the Hall of the Fire Giant King has been occupied by friendly forces, as it's going to be a potential base camp for exploration into the underdark. So I would mind some spiffy new maps there.

My group originally wanted to tear it down. Then after some discussion, and my pointing out that tearing it down would only mean the next group would have to build a new upper works (the valley is just too good a location not to settle in), they decided the best way to keep it safe would be to take it.
So they are trying to hire stone giants and "employ" the freed orc slaves until they can devote more effort to securing it. Also, after reading various descriptions of the Jotens and Crystalmists, notably the part about ancient ruins and such, they decided it would make a great base for them to loot and pillage said ruins in the future.
So it will be difficult, but it looks like I'll have a nice character developed base for the next campaign arc I run. (I like to have some continuity between arcs, so even if we switch PCs ever year or two, the players always have a relevant connection to their last characters, and their actions have a visible impact on the game.)
