#1spellweaverMay 23, 2006 5:55:26 | Watching the Eurovision Song Contest last weekend on television, I laughed when the Finnish band 'Lordi' won - dressed up as monsters! Danish newspapers speculate that fans of Lord of the Rings and roleplaying enthusiasts in general helped secure a landslide victory by SMS for the Finnish death-metal band (rather unusual contribution into a traditionally popsong contest). So, while half the population are mourning Lordi's victory and calling it a disgrace, the other half - the rebellious youth - are loving it! It made me wonder: what kind of influences do parents in the Known World consider 'bad influences' on their children? What is the equivalent of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll in Mystara? Let's have some ideas, folks! :-) Jesper |

I didn't actually vote, but I probably would have voted for them - as they were so different to the usual bland rubbish you get on Eurovision. Not my kind of music though - I'm an old punk. What is the equivalent of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll in Mystara? Adventuring :D Acquiring magic items etc. Regards Gary |

We've come to expect close to zero points. Well, not my cup of tea either - also an old punk. About Mystaran bad influences: how about "Thyatian fashion"? The hardworking merchants in Darokin are stunned to see their children adopt the decadent fads from the Empire etc. |

What is the equivalent of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll in Mystara? Mostly cultural, and already covered in source, things labeled (fad) seem closest in that they are popular but unapproved of by the elders. In Glantri, post WotI: Vampirism (fad), Lycanthropy (fad), Clerical tendancies In Ylarum: Wizardly Magic In Hule: Critical Thought In Heldannic Knight territory: Critical Thought In the Broken Lands: Above-animal Thought In the Savage Baronies: Random Dueling (fad, but culturally ingrained. Something common, all the old-folks did it when they were kids, and it's outlawed now, but ignored) |

#7natewisMay 24, 2006 0:14:44 | Or Zzonga Wine! How about wandering celeberity bards? |
#8havardMay 25, 2006 14:47:26 | I think the almost universal "bad influence" on Mystara would be the temptation by Entropics. This is interesting because on Mystara this is a real possibility and something that is universally bad. Another fun idea would be if there was some kind of game that parents belived would lead to the worship of Entropics.... :P Oh, and Congrats to Finland HÃ¥vard |
#9johnbilesMay 25, 2006 22:57:13 | Another fun idea would be if there was some kind of game that parents belived would lead to the worship of Entropics.... :P The notorious RPG, Papers and Paychecks clearly postulates a world where Entropy is winning! It's one of the very natural laws and there's no magic! Clearly it is the work of the Entropics! |
#10joni-sanMay 26, 2006 14:48:57 | Thanks for the support! Lordi pwned the Eurovision! HARD! ROCK! HALLELUJAH! Now for Mystara... Now that I think of it... What about bands with rocks in them? :P ;) |
#11maddogMay 26, 2006 20:49:40 | What about bands with rocks in them? :P ;) Terry Prachett reference! Music with rocks in it! Makes you want to paint one wall of your room black and just sit and watch it. A troll is required to play the drums. --Ray. |
