I could see ardents as desert-dwelling mystics, or else Nibenese "monks" seeking enlightenment, and lurks definitely fit in as "assassins serving the sorcerer-kings," but what of divine minds? Could they be salvaged for Dark Sun? --perhaps divine minds are minions of the still-remaining dragon kings? A sort of faux-templars? NB |

It seems like it's only a slightly better class (conceptually) then the Spellthief. I like the Ardent a lot and could easily see that class being representative of Pre-Tarandan psionics. It makes for a novel spin on psionics and might be taught at certain secluded monastries, but not at the major schools. There are a few mantles that seem kind of inappropriate to me, but for the most part I think everything about the class looks good. There was a thread right after the Complete Psionic came out where someone had the idea of the Divine Mind being the class that represents the "Priests" of the Green Age "Gods". |

My version of Borys/the Dragon has Ardent as his primary psionic class, and IMO the results were great - gave him a selection of powers that I think represented what he demonstrated in the Prism Pentad, whereas I really couldn't get the right "feel" otherwise without giving him a ton of both PsyWar and Psion levels - with the Ardent class, I was able to pull it off with just a couple levels of PsyWar to fill in the "gaps" (such as to give him the full martial weapon proficiencies, so I wouldn't have to waste a feat on him so he could wield the Scourge) I also like the Lurk class - one of my players converted their PsyWar/Rogue over to Lurk/Rogue and he's a lot more potent now - although we haven't played around with it enough to really see how good it truly is. I've got the feeling that, for a character with the capability to sneak attack a lot, it may be somewhat overpowered...but we shall see. There was a thread right after the Complete Psionic came out where someone had the idea of the Divine Mind being the class that represents the "Priests" of the Green Age "Gods". Yup, a couple of us liked that idea, and as usual I rambled on about the idea way more than I should have. |
