One limitation of polymorph is the number of attacks you can do in your new forms: you can't use extra limbs as stated in alter self. But that can gives some pretty weird situation...for example: wings are extra limbs right? you can gain the movement type (fly speed), but you can't use your wings... Here are a few suggestion that would limit shapechanging spells without resorting to this kind of rule (it sticks out like a sore thumb)...without breaking the verisimilitude of the game. 1) you keep your constitution score 2) no size stacking (no enlarge person + polymorph) 3) you make a Will same every other round DC 10+HD to keep your sanity and your rational conscious mind, instead of acting like the creature you morph into. |

That would be interesting if it only applied to creatures completely different type then your own. So you could change into any humaniod (assuming you are humaniod) without any chance of insanity. The insanity should be a slow thing too, I wouldn't want a character to go insane from chaning into a dog a couple of times, but it might start to slowly alter his thought process. Honestly that sort of thing sounds great for roleplaying, but would be very hard to clearly state in a rule, given no prexisting mechanic. If you were using the sanity rules in your game from Ravenloft, Heros of Horror, Call of the Cthulu (spelling? ), or some other similar system; then it could be integrated into that. Otherwise I would leave it up to roleplaying or house rules. |

Also, i was under the impression you do get the natural attacks a form has, but not attacks you would get from a race with multiple limbs to carry weapons. Metamorphosis does not appear to have the size limit that polymorph has though, so you can turn into huge/gargantuan creatures. Now that's scary. Already waiting for one of my players to turn into a behir in 2 levels. |

In LG, they ruled (wisely) to limit size increase at one size bigger than your original form. You do get special attacks but not the standard ones from extra limbs (more than your 2 hands in humanoïd form). |

#8banndonJun 01, 2006 9:26:39 | I looked it over again and I found under "natural attacks" in MM that a natural attack is anything that is part of the body of the creature. Since in alter self it states that you gain all natural attacks, I would have to rule that you can attack with all limbs a behir, girallon, hydra multiple heads, etc. But you can't use them to get extra attacks with weapons due to high BAB or feats (multi-weapon fighting and the like). |
