#1skiv_the_ratMay 30, 2006 20:10:05 | Okay. I was looking for RL books on amazon, seeing if I could track down a few things I'm missing when I came upon a link to a book coming out in October titled "Expedition to Castle Ravenloft". Does anyone have any clue what this is all about? Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I didn't see it when I looked. |
#2zombiegleemaxMay 30, 2006 20:40:49 | This has indeed been brought up before, Skiv, but I'm proud to have the opportunity to discuss it again. Were you to have perused further through the Amazon offerings, you also would have noticed a couple of Ravenloft novels being re-animated. No one's really talking at any length about what this all might mean; it's probably a cut-and-dried, one-shot rehashing of the original RPG Horror Classic, just in time for Halloween. I have my hopes, though, and if there's a Dark Power anywhere out there ready to weigh in, I desperately want to know what they have to say. For now, though, smile wickedly and prepare for the return of the Devil Strahd. What he might bring back from the dead with him is anyone's guess, but his return alone is enough to whet my appetite for the time being. |
#3zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2006 10:52:32 | This makes me wonder about the Sword & Sorcery liscense. I'm sure there were a lot of reasons for things to have played out the way they did, but I wonder if WotC had planned for this book before or after the liscense ended... Regards, Matt |

It has been stated numerous times that S&S chose not to continue leasing the RL setting because the price asked by WotC was too high given how the RL line was doing (which kind of surprised me since 6 of their top ten products back then were RL!). Now, if what you're saying is that WotC raised the leasing price on purpose to be certain they would get back RL and thus be able to publish/sell the future EtCR adventure, who knows.. but I would find that a weird business decision to say the least. |

I then looked over on Cordell's blog, and he has not yet mentioned working on it. He does have many other projects listed there he has been involved with. My guess, based solely on that; I think he was only contacted to write a Ravenloft piece after the license reverted. |
