#1zombiegleemaxJun 18, 2006 16:40:55 | I have a question about the GreyHawk setting. I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for a few months and have the PHB, MM1, DMG, DMG2, and the GreyHawk Gazetteer as you can see I have already made a substancial investment in the books I already have. My question(s) are Where can I find more about GreyHawk, specifically adventures geared to that location? Also even though most of the members of our group are only like level 2 should I invest in the PHB2? Also does anyone have any suggestions about other books I should buy? We also have a Paladin, fighter, bard and monk in our group if that helps any. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
#2zombiegleemaxJun 18, 2006 18:04:01 | IIRC, most of the Greyhawk specific adventures need to be updated from 1 & 2. |
#3cryosilverJun 18, 2006 20:22:40 | There's the "Greyhawk Gazateer" which is 3.0, and therefore, fairly easy to convert over. |
#4zombiegleemaxJun 19, 2006 0:39:59 | Greyhawk being the standard DnD setting, you may be able to find adventures here- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b Or you might want to update this from an older edition - http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Greyhawk/Ividform.zip You could also trying searching this database full of adventures - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=dungeons+and+dragons+greyhawk+adventure&btnG=Google+Search&meta= These might help with any adventures you choose to make yourself or download from the first link - http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mwa/archive2004 Have fun. |
#5AmarilJun 19, 2006 6:35:41 | There's the "Greyhawk Gazateer" which is 3.0, and therefore, fairly easy to convert over. Especially considering that there are no game mechanics in that book. :P JSYK, Dungeon Magazine has a respectable collection of 3e Greyhawk adventures. I highly recommend Mad God's Key as a good starter adventure. If you want a full campaign, check out the Age of Worms Adventure Path, a 12-part adventure campaign that just concluded. Most, if not all, of these adventures are available in back issues. Other 3e Greyhawk Dungeon Magazine adventures I recommend include: Scarlet Tide Cradle of Madness Istivin: City of Shadows (three-part campaign arc) Tammeraut's Fate If you go to Paizo.com's messagebaords, there are numerous Greyhawk fans that will most likely suggest more adventures. |
#6Seeker95Jun 19, 2006 10:19:24 | For all things Greyhawk, check out Canonfire |
#7AmarilJun 19, 2006 10:24:51 | For all things Greyhawk, check out Canonfire I wouldn't say "for all things Greyhawk," rather than "things that are all about Greyhawk." |

#9kelanenprinceofswordsJun 24, 2006 20:15:19 | If you have the D&D gazetteer, it only scratches the surface of Greyhawk. If you have the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, you probably have the best source for Greyhawk material to date. Check out the Greyhawk pdf files on RPGnow.com. There are lots of Greyhawk sourcebooks and modules from earlier editions, which you might find well worth the cost (especially if you don't mind doing some conversions). I recommend a classic supermodule -- The Temple of Elemental Evil, by Gary Gygax and Frank Mentzer. It will take your PCs from 1st level to about 15th (if you convert to 3.5, and complete the entire adventure). Then again, if any of the players have played the PC/console version released a few years ago, they might be a little too savvy, as this version is fairly faithful to the original (from what I've heard -- I only have enough free time to devote to tabletop D&D). |
#10ividJun 25, 2006 6:11:02 | Also even though most of the members of our group are only like level 2 should I invest in the PHB2? Defintely not. The PHB 2 contains a lot of aditional material you are likely to use, well, never. Even if you play very rules-heavy D&D, it will take you a lot time until your players really explore everything the Core books offer them. The only real new thing that the PHB 2 offers is the knight class, but that one can be downloaded in the previews section of this page. Also does anyone have any suggestions about other books I should buy? We also have a Paladin, fighter, bard and monk in our group if that helps any. Thanks in advance for any advice. As a beginner, downloading might be the best way to go at first. Wizards already offers a big archive of free downloads: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b ... offers a lot short scenarios of high quality, plus the updated GH classics Tomb of Horrors and White Plum Mountain. A whole lot of entire gaming books can be downloaded for free here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads And you might also want to check the Dragonsfoot archives: http://www.dragonsfoot.org/ It's not 3e D&D, but it's mostly 100% Greyhawk. With that, you'll have aeons to game on... |
#11thanaelJun 26, 2006 5:04:48 | Here's my still unedited Getting-Into-Greyhawk Primer: (Make sure to manually copy/paste the links into your browser or they will get truncated by WotC cry baby page!) For starters if you want to invest a bit of money, get the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (If you're lucky for less than $10 on ebay). It's the only 3E GH product (aside from LGJournal) and is well worth the price at more than 190 pages. Here's a link to a detailed review: http://66.34.111.89/eric/3eoldnews15.htm (scroll down) For the other (2E) GH products it depends how deep you want to go into it. See these lists for what products are Greyhawk specific or related: http://ulmo.mux.net/greyhawk/ (old material, some advice on what's essential) http://www.cmc.net/~rtaylor/greyhawk/product_chron.html (all) Many of the old stuff should be available on ebay quite cheap, though there are some collector pieces which fetch quite high prices. For descriptions check out the TSR Archive http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/gh/gh.htm http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/ (many 1E modules are GH!) Of course there are also pdf-Downloads for $$$ of most of the old 2E material. http://www.svgames.com/downloads-wotc.html There is a nice thread on canonfire about "Which Modules(accessories) make for the best Canon" with a lengthy anserw by Erik Mona himself: http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=5354 Here's another thread about "Essential 2E Greyhawk products.": http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=3449 Of course you also can get much material for free on the internet. There's loads of material on the web, as when GH was discontinued the web community held it alive with some real quality material. First and foremost download the great Ivid the Undying. This product is a fullblown Greyhawk supplement about the Great Kingdom available for free as it never got printed. Download it from WoTC: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads or as pdf available from the Acaeum site's Library: http://www.acaeum.com/Library/IvidUndying.pdf There's also a nice cover replica available at canonfire: http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1413 More official WotC Greyhawk downloads: http://ulmo.mux.net/greyhawk/wizards.html Other 2E GH modules available for free from WotC: EX1, EX2: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20020121x8 L1 Secret of Bone Hill: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads More 1E modules download links (scroll down) http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/gh_links.html Also I found this on the net: http://members.fortunecity.com/noldrek/modules/index.html (scourge of the slave lrods, queen of demonwebpits, expedition to barrier peaks) Then there's lots of quality original fan created material available including many fanzines and great websites. http://www.canonfire.com ( host also the greytalk mailing list, subscribe there or searchthe archives) Oerth Journal: http://www.canonfire.com/htmlnew/module ... &pid=2 Best of Greyhawk folders: http://www.canonfire.com/htmlnew/module ... mp;sid=113 World of Greyhawk Fanclub: http://members.aol.com/WoGFanClub/woghome.html The Council of Greyhawk: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~monax002/Council/index.html Chris Siren's Gord's Greyhawk Page: http://home.comcast.net/~chris.s/gordmain.html Some stuff from Greyhawk Adventures HC: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/dreadwood/greyhawk/magical.htm http://www.dracheninsel.de/insel/add/greyhawk/ http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/5878/ Russ Taylor's site http://www.cmc.net/~rtaylor/greyhawk/ Maldin's Greyhawk http://melkot.com Talmeta http://talmeta.net/runequest/greyhawk/rqgods.htm Grodog Research: http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/greyhawk.html Sheldomar Valley: http://freespace.virgin.net/scott.rennie/sheldoma.htm Duicarthan's 3E site: http://www.greyhawkonline.com/duicarthan/ More GH links: http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/gh_links.html http://www.nuketown.com/griff/links/ http://homepages.ius.edu/rvest/Greyhawk/GHLinks.html Greyhawk Webring: http://c.webring.com/hub?ring=greyhawk Greyhawk Forums: RealmsofEvil: http://greyhawkonline.com/pitsofevil/viewforum.php?f=21 WotC: http://boards1.wizards.com/ (there's a Greyhawk subforum) Canonfire: http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=Forums And last not least: The awesome Living Greyhawk Deities pdf: http://www.theocracyofthepale.com/downloads/lg_deities.pdf |
