#1MortepierreJul 04, 2006 3:46:49 | Apparently, Greyhawk has been "plundered" once again to explain some stuff from the newest Monster Manual. Note that I am not complaining. It just goes to prove they know a good story when they see one... http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060704a&page=1 |
#2ElendurJul 05, 2006 11:26:56 | Ah, the old Elder Elemental Eye - Tharizdun conundrum. Still not sure where I stand. The write up is good though. |
#3zombiegleemaxJul 05, 2006 20:50:13 | I was recently able to get enough info and a map on Greyhawk to run it, and I'm planning on running something dealing with the whole Elemental Evil Eye concept. |
#4mortellanJul 06, 2006 3:01:53 | This EEE- monster tie in looks good. If they have an avatar for all 4 elements in MM4 I may consider getting this. |
#5GreysonJul 07, 2006 12:23:59 | If they have an avatar for all 4 elements in MM4 I may consider getting this. The preview I got last month did have a creature to represent all four elements. I think the greyhawk community will be pleased with Monster Manual IV. There are some nasty, nasty creatures in Monster Manual IV. Expect a lot of players to complain about "broken CRs" if a DM or judge uses some of the monsters in this thing. |

#7zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2006 20:10:27 | Ah, the old Elder Elemental Eye - Tharizdun conundrum. Still not sure where I stand. The write up is good though. So is this the official position Elder eye = Tharizdun. I am confused. It seems multiple sources conflict here. What is the weight of opinion and where does it stand? |
#8zombiegleemaxJul 19, 2006 5:57:17 | I think the weight of opinion is that the EEE is an aspect of Tharizdun used to dupe the Elemental Princes among others. |
#9ElendurJul 19, 2006 11:44:00 | I believe this is the opinion of Monte Cook (author of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil) and the current Dragon article writers. According to Gary Gygax, however, the implication that EEE = Tharzidun was a mistake. As far as 'official', if it comes out in a current D&D hardbound, that's official enough for most people. Though this is Greyhawk we're talking about. Some consider anything not written by Gygax as unofficial. |
#10cwslyclghJul 19, 2006 13:38:48 | I believe this is the opinion of Monte Cook (author of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil) and the current Dragon article writers. it is the opinion of Monte Cook, the opinion of current dragon writers in unknown and doesn't matter since Monte Cook's opinion was published as fact in an official source by the IP holder, and thus became official cannon... dragon writers are bound by official cannon (something that we are thankfuly not bound by in our home games), so even if they were to disagree with the idea that EEE and tharzy are the same in thier, writing they have to support it. |
