#1havardAug 11, 2006 7:01:07 | Probably the most neglected culture of Mystara, the Blacklore elves were never even given a map of their homelands. Here is one I made up. This is a work in progress though, things may change as new ideas pop up Comments? Håvard |

#3havardAug 11, 2006 8:09:50 | I see a few Blackmoor tidbits here and there... I posted some background info in a separate thread here. Most of the names are taken from Elven settlements from the Blackmoor map. The reasoning for this is that the Blacklore elves are descendants of elves living near Blackmoor in Blackmoor's future/the Known World's past. My idea was that the Cumasti and Westryn eventually overcame their differences, but after some years of prosperity were seduced by the technological wonders of Blackmoor, and eventually abandoned their own ways for technology. When Blackmoor was destroyed, these elves were transported into the Hollow World, though their culture has been tinkered with. They now resemble something out of HG Well's Time Machine. They live in an isolated paradise-like world where everything is provided for them by Automatons, technology/constructs that they no longer understand. This is a quite liberal interpretation of whats given in the Hollow World boxed set, but a more interesting take IMO.... Håvard |

#5havardAug 11, 2006 10:05:07 | I hope you save that article and put it on your site! It should make it there for the next update. BTW, I just posted part II of the Background in that thread. Really interesting! I wish I could participate in a Mystara campaign there one day... Thanks! What did you think of the specific locations taken from Blackmoor? Could their backgrounds be used as inspiration for this "new" setting? Håvard |
#6olddawgAug 11, 2006 12:26:36 | My canon recollection was that the Blacklore elves were not the elves in the north near Blackmoor, but they were the last survivors of Vulcania before the place finally went apocalyptic. The Blackmoor elves obviously were the gateway for technology transference to Davanian elves, but my view is that the Cumasti and Westryn were smoked along with the rest of Blackmoor settlements. -OldDawg |
#7havardAug 11, 2006 14:20:37 | Thanks for the input OldDawg! My canon recollection was that the Blacklore elves were not the elves in the north near Blackmoor, but they were the last survivors of Vulcania before the place finally went apocalyptic. You are right. I was a bit hasty when writing the reply to Ivid. My Blacklore History is more accurate on this account: History in the Outer World This could perhaps even be modified a bit. I would still like to stress the role of the Blackmoor elves in bringing technology to Vulcania (non-canon, but with story potential IMO), but most areas surrounding Blackmoor were completey destroyed by the Blackmoor explosion itself, so it is unlikely that those elves were transported to the Hollow World, though the culture they founded was brought there through the elves of Vulcania. The Blackmoor elves obviously were the gateway for technology transference to Davanian elves, but my view is that the Cumasti and Westryn were smoked along with the rest of Blackmoor settlements. I still think the role the Blackmoor elves played in brining the technology to Vulcania could justify using some of those names for the Blacklore settlements. The Blacklore civilization itself was dramatically altered by the Immortals in any case, so that would give us some leeway, plus it makes it easier than having to make up all new names... Comments? I know to few about Mystara to judge how things fit together, but it seems like a coherent oresentation to me. As I said, I think I'd like to explore the area as a player one day. With you as DM, of course! PbP? :D |
