#1zombiegleemaxAug 31, 2006 15:15:08 | To start the thread for Templars: For templars who level up in prestige classes (wives of nibenay, yellow robes, black cloaks, etc.) do their prestige class levels stack with their templar levels to determine the number of times per day he/she may use their Secular Authority? Or are they losing access to more uses in exchange for the new abilities their specific master grants them? |
#2dirk00001Aug 31, 2006 15:32:38 | Given how specific those PrC's are, I'd assume you'd get all of the other templar abilities as well - doesn't make any sense to me why you wouldn't, since in most cases you're basically talking "normal" templars for those particular city-states. A good point that needs to be addressed in the next PrC book update, at any rate. |
#3flipAug 31, 2006 15:45:01 | To start the thread for Templars: If they're templar specific PrCs (requiring, for example, Secular Authority as a prereq), then yes, the PrC levels stack with templar levels for purposes of Secular Authority. |

This would mean that only the Moon Priest and Servant of Badna PrcS would have stacked uses per day for this abilty, because those two are the only ones that have secular authority as a prerequisite. Although it haven't been especially noted down that way, I used to rule that the amounts per day secular authority of classes that grant secular authority as a class feature stack with each other. IMHO it doesn't make sense that a templar 5 / servant of badna 3 would be able to use his secular authority more often than for example a templar 5 / oba's servant 3. Btw. Will the secular authority be revised in the next release. I remember that there has been a thread, where this was discussed, but IIRC there was no definite answer to that. |

I remember that there has been a thread, where this was discussed, but IIRC there was no definite answer to that. I fully intend on revisiting the ability; in all honesty, I really don't like the way it's implemented right now. There's the question of meeting particular requirements, which is part of what lead to the current setup. But as is, it's too awkward. I'll bring out my thoughts on it in a week or two, once I get a bit more off my plate ... |
#6jon_oracle_of_athasSep 01, 2006 14:31:19 | Actually, to be precise, all classes that have secular authority as a class feature should add their levels to their templar level to determine secular authority use. |
#7zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2006 10:49:03 | Okay, I'll be dumb and ask this. The templar gets Turning/Rebuking Turn or Rebuke Undead: When a templar reaches 3rd level, she is granted the supernatural ability to turn or rebuke undead by her sorcerer-king. The templar may use this ability a number of times per day equal to three plus her Charisma modifier. She turns undead as a cleric of two levels lower would (See Turn and Rebuke Undead in chapter 8 of the Player’s Handbook). Templars in the service of an evil sorcerer-monarch rebuke undead, while those templars serving a good-aligned sorcerer-monarch turn undead. To turn/rebuke undead the templar presents his sorcerer-king’s sigil. Now, the Wives of Nibenay get Turning/Rebuking, too Rebuke Undead (Su): The wife of Nibenay rebukes undead as a templar three levels lower would. She can rebuke undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. Templars already rebuke as if they were a cleric of her level -2. Now, when the Wives get this ability at 4th level, it says rebuke undead as a templar three levels lower would. So, is that as a cleric of -5 levels? Is it 3+Cha mod times per day separately from the higher level version templars already get? |
#8zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2006 11:02:54 | Are their templars who know their masters are, or are becoming, great, scaled, abominations? WoN, for example, apparently have to marry and sleep with Nibenay, oh and live through that. Do they know that he has talons, scales, and arms long enough to walk quadrapedal? Or does he maintain a human appearance, even for them? Not sure how secret the SKs necessarily feel is necessary, considering their immense power. |
