Should draconians be a favoured enemy (for rangers) all its own or should they simply be included in favoured enemy - dragons?

They're included in the dragon type.

I realize that, but should they be since Dragons are already so much more prevalent in the DL world and there is already precedent with splitting up Humanoids. I don't really have a problem with it, I just don't see the connection between someone who has a hate-on for draconians also having a hate-on for dragons, especially good-aligned ones. Maybe I'll just split it up by evil-aligned Dragon types...

If you end up fighting a lot of true dragons in DL, your characters probably won't live too long. ;) The ranger in our 3-year-long campaign had favored enemy (dragons), which also ounted agaisnt draconians and dragonspawn (IIRC), and it was never a problem.

I'd advise against diluting the ranger's ability too much; the player took it for a reason, he clearly wants to be front and center when fighting dragons. Let him have his moment in the spotlight.

Edit: Besides, it has nothing to do with hate - it's intended to model knowledge of the tactical tendencies of the target, and points at which to strike to do additional damage.

Trust me. It is no worse than Favored Enemy (monstrous humanoids) or Favored Enemy (magical beasts). If he chooses Dragons, remind yourself that Favored Enemy is never in the player's control, and already depends on the DM including the creature type in the game, so cut the player some slack.

Cheers,

But also be mindful that it is your game!
