Hi all -
This month's issue of Dragon has an excellent article on the Hordelands of fr. As such, I'm wondering what if any part of this can be modified to Greyhawk. Can some this be used for the Paymins, the Tiger/Wolf Nomads, or Exbir, or another region of the map that we only glimpse?
What thoughts do you guys have for placing the Hordelands in the Flanaess and which regions (other than those mentioned above) would be a good place from which they'd come?

Thanks and just wondering what awesome articles you guys would come up with. Maybe it'll turn into a CanonFire article by someone, exploring our own Hordelands.
Be Well.

The Horde boxed set is a free download at wizards.com, so I thought a while back of reversing the Hordelands' direction and sticking them at the western edge of the Baklunish lands, stretching out over toward the Celestial Imperium.

My conclusion was that it's geographically very difficult, and there's probably not a lot of reward. Your mileage may vary.

If the article has new game mechanics - regional feats or prestige classes or something - then yes, a Paynim or Wolf or Tiger Nomad should probably qualify for them.

This is up my alley. I'll reserve my final call until I get the issue. My gut reaction is in addition to the areas mentioned before, it could also serve as a good basis for understanding the past of Greyhawk (The Brazen Horde specifically).

Hi all -
So Mort, how come www.GreyhawkOnline.com/ghhorde doesn't exist? Just wondering why I only get to read your comic on the site and not your hard work on a region in which I could use.
Not sure I remember the Brazen Horde off-hand. When you say its up your alley, please explain. I've got my current setting in Dyvers, but I'd like to have a future game set somewhere up north, and or might have an NPC druid from the region to get me excited about the area.
The article doesn't appear to have much

I thought it went w/o saying that I am 'Mr. Ull'. Ull is not only a splinter tribe of the Paynim, but they also successfully repelled the 'another' invader, the Brazen Horde back in the 300's CY.

Here are my best Ull related articles with 'horde' flair:

Okay the article was well written and I loved the map included. The Hordelands is a vast area of undeveloped land the size of Faerun's main setting area. As for use in Greyhawk, it's rather a tough fit as Rip says. Geographically improbable. Some cities and sites in its modest gazetteer could be lifted for Greyhawk. I'm especially intrigued by the dwarven city who have been architects for the surrounding area since the time of Imaskar. Equate that to a farflung dwarven clan who used to be builders for the Suel. The entry on the former kobold city was quite unique too! That could fit anywhere though. Basically the article is a reboot for the Hordeland region, you would still need to DL the original set as mention before, if you want the full Hordeland flavor. The feats and regional packages could be useful in GH as well, though GH has had it's own regional feats done up in an old Dragon too(i forget the numbers).

I'd substitute "pre-Hegira Baklunish" where it says "Imaskari." Where it says the Imaskari died of a mysterious plague, substitute "the Baklunish kingdom is destroyed in the War of Light and Darkness; the survivors flee to the east in their great Hegira." Where it says "Raumathar," think "Oeridians." Adjust the dates accordingly, so that the Hegira happened in BH 1. Mentions of hordes of nomads uniting and conquering toward the east in modern times should be adjusted to that they describe the Brazen Horde in the 300s CY.

If you want to use the map, you have to account for the extra mountain ranges in Oerik.

Other than that, it should work. That's in the article itself; in FR in general, the Imaskari are much closer to the Suel. But as they relate to the history of the plains to the west of the Baklunish basin, the Baklunish are closer and fit better with the local culture.

Okay, something like this:

-9900 CY Dwarves settle the Firepeak Mountains
-6900 CY Tribes of Taagan humans settle the Endless Waste
-6360 CY Proto-Baklunish tribes settle the Raurin Plains
-5100 Baklunar Empire subjugates Taagan tribes
-2659 The War of Light and Darkness. Baklunar empire shattered. Baklunish flee east beyond the Sunrise Mountains to found new nation.
-900 The Oeridian kingdom is founded with its capital at Telchurkeep.
-780 Oeridians found Almorel
-644 Oeridia and Narfell destroy one another in decade-long war. Johydee prophesizes migration to the east.
-600 Orcs from the Sunrise Mountains drive Oeridian survivors from much of the Hordelands.
277 CY Rise of Yamun Khahan.
301 CY Tuigan army conquers Ket and Ull, invades Suhfang, Perrenland, Bissel, Zeif, Ekbir, and Tusmit.
302 CY Tuigan forces invade Gran March. Allied armies from the Sheldomar basin defeat the Tuigan. Yamun Khahan slain.
303 CY Tuigan bandits terrorize merchants on the Golden Way.
305 Hubadai, son of Yamun Khahan, declares himself Khahan and founds nation of Yaimmunahar, west of the Swordrise Mountains and north of Suhfang (the "High and Low Khanates").
307 CY Kourmira (I can't think of a better name - maybe Khindyla, after Chendyl?), capital of Yaimmunahar, founded.
309 CY Increased trade along the Golden Way prompts eastern nations to establish trading posts in Almorel and Kourmira.
314 CY The Mouqallad open a merchant enclave in Kourmira.

Here's a map to go along with the article:
