#1zombiegleemaxOct 19, 2006 11:46:04 | ..and, in particular, voodoo dolls ..as my PCs are about to enter in Souragne (after a beautiful trip in Pont-a -Museau, ravaged by an epidemic pestilence.....), i think it would be appropriate (and funny), let them experience (as witness or firsthand) the workings of a voodoo doll. Does anybody knows if there are rules (official or otherwise..)dealing with cost, crafting methods, and properties of voodoo dolls? In my opinion it should be possible to cast curses, necromantic and enchantment spells on a subject using a doll containing some hair (or nails, or other parts and pieces) of the intended victim. I'm about to come up with some homebrew rules, but i wanted to know if it already exists some official or fan-made rule about voodoo dolls in d20 system. Cheers |

If you use something published, then your PC's may try to rules lawyer or metagame it. Keeping it homebrew allows you to slowly reveal it to them and keep some of the mystey, tweak something that isn't quite perfect, and throw in a few surprises. Plus, then it's truly what you want for the story you're trying to do, and not something shoehorned in (which may or may not be a perfect fit). Eric |

Luckily, my players are not much the lawyer type...but i agree, when a DM needs house rules for his/her campaign, the best are those homebrewed by him/herself, if he/her has the time to do them (I.E. if he/her doesn't have to manage a real life, a real work, DMastering, some pub marathon (:D )etc.)..sometimes some little research on the net for game mechanics save the DM precious time to come up with a better story, i think... cheers |

Possibly...but i don't own/have access to "Dark Tales and Disturbing Legend"..for 3.x Ravenloft i've only the campaign setting (3.0), the five gazeteers and the monster manual, thought i own almost all of Ravnloft old accessories, and adventures and the Red Box (ah, good 'ol "The Created".....first time i ran it, in the group there was my girlfriend, who (in real life) is scared to death by dolls...:D :D ...yes, i admit, i've a thing for carrionettes, Maligno, voodo dolls, doll golems, etc..sue me!;) ) cheers |
#8MortepierreOct 26, 2006 3:34:39 | DTaDL has a section (starting on p.173) on Voodan, the RL equivalent of real-world's Vodoun. It looks the same but isn't exactly what you might expect. There is also a new base class that makes use of gris-gris (basically, spells turned into items). However, the Book of Sorrows (from the Kargatane) has an article about how to use "voudou" on Gothic Earth. It's 2e but it contains a wealth of info. |
