For my bit I can say to look in chapter 2 of Terrors of the Dead Lands, which holds some details on the PHB spells' interactions with the Gray and Black.

I think he is asking if you can use the Tome of Magic version of shadow magic and the Black on Athas???? At least that is what I'm thinking he wanted to ask....

Nov 07, 2006 3:44:40 I've often thought about using the Shadow Adept (From FR)PrC in Athas to represent a secretive cabal of wizards. Replace Shar with Rajaat. Me no know not to bright.

It doesn't seem overwhelming or anything - any templar who caught him would just consider him an unsanctioned user of magic like any other caster and have him executed or thrown to the slave pits. If anything, the weirdness of people not understanding his Mysteries just makes him even more of an outsider, which fits the Dark Sun vibe fine.

EDIT: Although thematically it doesn't raise the issue of the temptation of defiling, which some might say is sort of "cheating around" the way that magic is supposed to work in the setting.
