#1harkleOct 25, 2006 1:07:36 | I'm wondering where I can good information concerning the history of the multiverse from a planescape perspective, especially the creation of the multiverse if such information exists and the very earliest events. I know people know of the creation of Asmodeus and his fall to hell and I believe that is the earliest even I can recall people discussing. I'm hoping some decent amount of this can be found in one place and I don't have to go over dozens of books to piece it all together. |
#2zombiegleemaxOct 25, 2006 7:39:09 | here: http://www.planewalker.com/forums/viewThread.php?intPostID=3057 there's a godd attempt to delinate a History of the Planes, even if it doesn't say much about the formation of the Planes and Asmodeus fall.... cheers |

Don't remember if there is an 'S' at the end of the title or not...;) There isn't, it's just called On Hallowed Ground. Asmodeus' alleged fall is only discussed in Guide to Hell. It's not mentioned in any Planescape book. |
#5Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 29, 2006 21:35:54 | There's a very nice planar chronology in Hellbound: The Blood War, though it largely focuses on the lower planes or events relevant to them without much on the neutral or good planes. It's also the most comprehensive source of material on the topic, though take some of it with a grain of salt because the earliest records are all of yugoloth origin, and the truth they present there to the rest of the multiverse might have little to do with the objective fact as it happened historically. It's the best we can do however. The only known twists on fact it has however is an omission of the Obyriths (who admittedly hadn't been created OOC at the time). Incorporating the newest material from Fiendish Codex I, the 'loths appear to have intentionally twisted the facts for a bit of political gain in the present time given that the Tanar'ri have since largely displaced the Obyriths. And as Rip said, the "fall of Asmo" isn't discussed in any source outside of 'Guide to Hell' which came up with it in the first place [and that source also falls afoul of the material in other sourcebooks in terms of early planar history]. |
#6ripvanwormerOct 29, 2006 23:35:12 | It's also possible that claims by the obyriths to have created the tanar'ri are unfounded; they're simply an Abyssal race that enslaved and altered the tanar'ri for a time, but didn't actually make them, despite the claims of sources like the Demonomicon of Iggwilv. After all, the yugoloth histories recounted in Hellbound: The Blood War are for yugoloth use only, fact-checked by competing arcanaloth scholars. Although I endorse Shemmy's idea that the tanar'ri were created by a baernaloth who essentially (magically) raped the obyrith Pale Night. Fiendish Codex I alludes to this possibility, kind of. Might as well link to this thread. |
#7maldinOct 30, 2006 1:34:47 | The link that rip posted has alot of really cool info on the Planescape timeline (especially one of rip's own lengthy and thorough posts in that thread referencing a huge number of published materials). As for the initial formation of the Multiverse, I've posted my own theories on my website at http://melkot.com/mysteries/multiverse.html Denis, aka "Maldin" ============================ Maldin's Greyhawk http://melkot.com |
