I totally didn't even realize that this forum was here! I'm running the new Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, and I was so inspired that I wanted to create my own custom introduction for my players. I had to, I think, because the game went from 10AM to 4PM, and that's just not very spooky.

Anyway, you can watch it on YouTube:

If you like it, please rate it!

What software did you use? Where did you take the images / films?

I used After Effects, Zaxwerks, Illustrator, Photoshop and Apple Pro Motion. The images are all stock photography, save for the letter, which I made myself. The music is copyrighted, but when you're not planning to make a profit, and you don't use too much, no one cares. It's just a little fan film, anyway. I did the VO, myself, and used Soundtrack to mix it down. I'm a broadcast designer, so it puts me in a rather unique position to do this.

I'm using the Eberron soundtrack to score the next one. That will make things more fun for Wizards.

I also am pretty damn impressed.

It reminded of the old Castlevania video games for Nintendo about 10-15 years ago.

Very, very nice job.

And you know what? Ravenloft SHOULD play like Castlevania. It's totally written that way.

The SNES Castlevania was a real source of inspiration on this project. Thanks for noticing.

I always just pass stuff like this over without a second glance, but a few names I recognize said good things, so... I took a look.
Are you KIDDING? That was AWESOME!

Who are the power players (names you recognize) who said good things? Did they say them to you in person? Where did you hear this if you didn't read the thread?

I'm such a compliment ho ;)

That's really, really incredible. I'll be emailing the Youtube link to my players when they get onto the campaign adventure!

Good work, man! Ravenloft needs more dedicated gamers and creative folk like you!

It comes from Arjuna OST 1. "Into the Another World" is the name of the album, which is hilarious. The song title is equally funny: "Feel the Circle." However, I have found so many wonderful songs on that soundtrack, and I highly recommend it to any DM.

Hope you don't mind, this weekend, I tried to pass this off as my own two 3 of my players, as a joke. 2 acutally fell for it before I burst out laughing. 1 had aready seen it on youtube. I'm actually a bit frightened that they thought I was capable of it. One said, "It's not the craziness or dedication that I doubt, it's just the video editting skills. If I knew you had experience with tools like that, I'd totally believe you did it." I'm not sure if that's a compliment... ;) Anyway, excellent work...

HAHAHAHAHA! Oh, my god! Thank you for that wonderful story! That's hilarious that one had already seen it on YouTube.

Just remember, if you're not selling it, I don't care if you want to claim it as your own. Also, was he saying I'm crazy? Cause I'll cut him. I'll cut him good. ;)

Don't worry... crazy in a good way... ;) That's how I like to take it when they call me crazy for my rampant photoshopping of NPC pictures.

OOOOoooOOOoooo! Post some!

You can see them at my website:
http://ravenloft.home.att.net

here are some examples:
  • Conrad (My own npc, A Barovian Miner, who is supposed to resemble Baron Metus, photoshopped from Baron Metus's Bleak House picture. My personal favorite.)
  • Cynthia (My own vorlog NPC, photoshopped from Denizens of Dread's vorlog picture to remove the blood)
  • Dr. Van Richten (under an alias, photoshopped from his VRMHCII picture to remove the hammer and stakes on the wall)
  • Jackie Montarri (photoshopped from RLMCII to remove the heads on her shelf.)
  • Gondegal (photoshopped from his Black Box picture to give him the Knight of the Shadows cloak from Van Richten's Arsenel)
  • Marie Delacourte (from CotN: G, photoshopped from the pistoleer in Van Richten's arsenal to remove her pistol)
  • an elven kukri (photoshopped from a real kukri image)
  • Elena Faithhold (photoshopped from her Islands of Terror picture to switch the shadow unicorn to a horse, and replace her holy symbol with the right one.)
  • Knightshade (NPC of my own design, based on the Knight of the Shadows pic in Van Richten's Arsenal, but with a staff replacing the sword.)
  • The Mournesworth Dagger (item of my own design, photoshopped from a real dagger pic to add the Mournesworth family motto from Gaz III)
  • Hughes Maigny (from RLDMG, photoshopped by combining the Caliban and Dwarf from RCS)
  • Lord Governor Guignol (photoshopped from the Alchemical Philosopher PrC from VRA, to remove his flask)
  • Francois de Penible (photoshopped from CotN: D to remove the spooky chains)
  • Alexandre du Cire (from CotN:C, photoshopped to remove his candle)
  • Angel Pajaro (from Cotn:W, photoshopped to remove her wolf form in the background)
  • Vlad Drakov (from LotB, photoshopped to rotate 45degrees and replace missing parts of the background.)
