#1jon_oracle_of_athasNov 25, 2006 10:23:19 | We are currently looking for a linguistic proofreader for our athasian equipment project at athas.org. We need someone with flawless English and plenty of time on their hands. Volunteers can post in this thread or e-mail jon@athas.org. Once the linguistic aspects have been proofread and touched up, we will be looking for playtesters and game mechanic proofreaders. |
#2PennarinNov 25, 2006 10:43:27 | I volunteer! |
#3jon_oracle_of_athasNov 25, 2006 12:46:19 | Err... Pennarin, you´re the one who requested a linguistic proofreader to touch up your stuff. But however, seeing you *are* volunteering, I am sure I can find some use for you. For starters, how about you provide some details about the project, such as how many pages the working document occupies (excluding PoP)? |
#4PennarinNov 25, 2006 13:40:44 | That was a joke, by the way. Death Valley dry air affect your mind, Jon? :P I'll post something on the page count when I get back home. Probably the document can be broken down into pieces though. |
#5dirk00001Nov 25, 2006 14:08:53 | I volunteer - I tend to ramble semi-coherently on the boards here, but I had some stuff published back when I was still in High School so I think I'm qualified to proof read. Plus I've already done some work with Pen and Meth on the project, so I have a base idea as to what's going on as well. On the playtesting part, I'm already using the new poison list in my game so I'm ahead of the game there. Anything else that goes into the doc I'll definitely include in my game as well, so I can somewhat combine the proofreading and testing into one. |
#6brun01Nov 25, 2006 18:03:49 | If I remember correctly, I already did that. In case you still need one after FFN comes out, I could do it (me english super best!). I'll ask Fabiano if he's avaliable, he's the best reviewer out there. You'll see it after seker sends him the avangion! :D |
#7jon_oracle_of_athasNov 26, 2006 8:51:23 | That was a joke, by the way. Yes, and I got it. But few others would. It´s more of an inside joke, which is why I was explaining it to everyone else. |
#8jon_oracle_of_athasNov 26, 2006 8:52:29 | To all volunteers, we need your e-mail addresses. Post here or e-mail me at jon@athas.org. Thank you. |
#9wintergreenDec 14, 2006 8:45:09 | Hi there, While I haven't got a huge amount of spare time I'd be willing to do some proofreading. I've actually been a proofreader and editorial assistant for an international academic journal in the past so i've got some formal experience at doing this sort of thing. I can be contacted via this messageboard. |
#10PennarinDec 15, 2006 17:43:21 | Hi there, Send your email adress to mine, and I'll shoot material your way. pennarin@gmail.com |
#11j0ltDec 16, 2006 0:24:20 | I'm an english teacher, and I love proofreading/editing stuff. |
#12jon_oracle_of_athasDec 16, 2006 4:05:09 | Great. Send a mail to Pennarin at the above e-mail address. |
#13ruhl-than_sageDec 16, 2006 13:09:52 | Wow, I was going to volunteer... but you've already got professionals chomping at the bit:D |
#14PennarinDec 16, 2006 14:07:58 | What I want to see is pages rendered unreadable through Revision Mode changes...which would, after I accept the changes, turn into a beautiful swan of readability far superior to my own writting skills. ;) Can any of you pull that off?! :P |
#15blackheartDec 16, 2006 18:10:29 | I can. Ha. I'm not a lit or English major, nor a teacher of either (I paid for education in History) and I'm generally less qualified than the other volunteers, but I'd like to help, if possible. |
#16dirk00001Dec 18, 2006 9:59:05 | What I want to see is pages rendered unreadable through Revision Mode changes...which would, after I accept the changes, turn into a beautiful swan of readability far superior to my own writting skills. ;) I'm pretty sure I've done that - there have been times editing AAE that I couldn't figure it if I'd included any punctuation what-so-ever thanks to all the little arrows-n-lines spewing across the page. ;) |
#17PennarinDec 18, 2006 21:23:30 | I'm pretty sure I've done that - there have been times editing AAE that I couldn't figure it if I'd included any punctuation what-so-ever thanks to all the little arrows-n-lines spewing across the page. ;) You did that for Egendo. Man, that one was unreadable. Good job at that! :D |
#18flindbarDec 19, 2006 3:03:38 | What I want to see is pages rendered unreadable through Revision Mode changes...which would, after I accept the changes, turn into a beautiful swan of readability far superior to my own writting skills. ;) Aaaah ha haaarrrr. Death to them thar dashes and semicolons! Makes em walk the plank swhat i say me harties. Arrrr Arrrrrrrr. :D |
#19nivek_kpkDec 19, 2006 7:27:58 | If I could offer my services that'd be fantastic. |
#20dirk00001Dec 19, 2006 9:58:24 | You did that for Egendo. Man, that one was unreadable. Good job at that! :D There were times when that document became unreadable for me as well, not necessarily because of the tracked changes but because, occasionally when I added in a couple new lines, Word got confused and decided to push random paragraphs onto the next page, completely out of order with the rest of the text...at one point in time I think I re-edited the same section twice because Word had decided that I would appreciate having both an edited as well as un-edited copy of the same paragraph in existence. Edit: Speaking of unreadable...how's that for a run-on sentence? |
#21kalthandrixDec 19, 2006 10:50:25 | I would volenteer, but seeing as how some of the work is mine I do not think that would be totally right - and I too have a tendancy to make a page very blue with my edits and changes - just ask Brax and cnahumck! |
#22brun01Dec 20, 2006 12:03:05 | Don't forget about the "ramble on incessantly" part, too... :P |
#23cnahumckDec 20, 2006 12:07:21 | Yes Kal, there is a lot of edits when you proofread. Too bad I don't accept the Track Changes :P |
#24jon_oracle_of_athasDec 20, 2006 12:22:35 | Here is another proofreading opportunity. As you may know, Kal has done a huge amount of work compiling all the fan contributed prestige classes. The Senate is going to have the final say, but if there are any rules experts and flavor gurus out there wanting to prove your metal, let me know by e-mail: jon@athas.org. |
#25kalthandrixDec 20, 2006 12:29:59 | General FYI - brun01 was my assistant for about a third of the Appendix II project - I was getting bogged down and totally stressed at work and he was willing to give me a hand on some of the revisions and edits that we made/suggested. So be sure to give my minion #1 his props! :D |
#26cnahumckDec 20, 2006 12:30:48 | Here is another proofreading opportunity. As you may know, Kal has done a huge amount of work compiling all the fan contributed prestige classes. This will be hard, Athas has almost no metal. |
#27kalthandrixDec 20, 2006 15:53:56 | This will be hard, Athas has almost no metal. hummmmm....metal. I like metal. It is shiny. |
#28dirk00001Dec 21, 2006 10:19:15 | hummmmm....metal. I eated the purple berries. They taste like burning. |
#29SysaneDec 21, 2006 10:37:45 | I eated the purple berries. They taste like burning. Ralph Wiggum. Do I win a prize? :P |
#30dirk00001Dec 21, 2006 13:18:33 | Ralph Wiggum. Do I win a prize? :P Do theoretical pats-on-the-back count as a prize? |
#31SysaneDec 21, 2006 14:00:41 | Phfffft! I guess it will have to do. |
#32kalthandrixDec 21, 2006 14:34:20 | Phfffft! I guess it will have to do. Whooow - here you are - a true treat for all your hard work --> you can make a draturken! |
#33jon_oracle_of_athasDec 23, 2006 8:20:58 | Sysane, you just won a one-way ticket to proofreading. :P |
#34SysaneDec 23, 2006 9:05:58 | Yesss! |
#35jon_oracle_of_athasDec 23, 2006 11:23:32 | So are you up to receiving your prize? |
#36SysaneDec 23, 2006 14:34:09 | Sure. What exactly do you need proof read? |
#37jon_oracle_of_athasDec 23, 2006 15:47:23 | Send me your e-mail address again, and I will e-mail you the content we want feedback on. |

Metal, mettle....He's already post testing the proofreaders.;) |
#39jon_oracle_of_athasDec 29, 2006 18:53:19 | Apparently word play is too sophisticated for some people. Or they have way too much time on their hands that could be spent on proofreading other stuff than my posts. ;) |
#40kalthandrixDec 29, 2006 22:44:02 | Metal, mettle....He's already post testing the proofreaders.;) maybe he wants your blood to see if you have the right amounts of iron :D We want the proofreaders to be health, so Jon, being the wonderful project coordinator that he is, only wants to ensure that those we have working on this stuff who are well enough to complete the work. |
#41jon_oracle_of_athasDec 30, 2006 4:25:23 | Kal has nailed our recruitment policy. :P |
#42thebraxJan 01, 2007 16:17:06 | Apparently word play is too sophisticated for some people. Or they have way too much time on their hands that could be spent on proofreading other stuff than my posts. ;) ROFL! |
#43j0ltJan 02, 2007 0:55:34 | I just downloaded the Dark Sun 3 PDF, there's an error in the Weapons section. In the description for the Impaler, the word parallel should be changed to perpendicular. |
#44jon_oracle_of_athasJan 02, 2007 1:09:58 | Put it in the DS3 feedback thread, please. ;) |
