#1bengeldornNov 29, 2006 18:52:41 | Based on some discussion that have occured lately I was thinking some piecemeal armor variations that are worn as full suits. I tried to balance these armors to those presented in the PHB, thats why I added some rules for some of them (see armor descriptions). |
#2kalthandrixNov 29, 2006 23:04:14 | Nice - daddy like :D I think a new feat would be in order for the gladiator armor maybe - like an exotic armor proficiency, with gladiators gaining one at first level as part of their weapon and armor proficiencies like a bard gets to choose a weapon from a small set that they would usually not have access to. Just an idea. Hey if you want to use the three versions of the gladiator armor that I made let me know and I will send the details - I think I may have deleted the post that I put them in here on the board. |
#3bengeldornNov 29, 2006 23:36:08 | Nice - daddy like :D I'm glad to here that.....daddy;) I think a new feat would be in order for the gladiator armor maybe - like an exotic armor proficiency, with gladiators gaining one at first level as part of their weapon and armor proficiencies like a bard gets to choose a weapon from a small set that they would usually not have access to. Just an idea. I not realy a big fan of exotic armor proficiency ( unless maybe it would include more than one armor). I tried to avoid introducing another feat by making the armors less effcient against critical threats. I don't know if the numbers are doing their job (if those armors are too powerfull, I could increase the bonus for confirming critical threats), but I kind of liked the idea. Hey if you want to use the three versions of the gladiator armor that I made let me know and I will send the details - I think I may have deleted the post that I put them in here on the board. Sure, let me see what you got. I'm still looking for a decent "medium caravan armor"...maybe you've got some ideas for that too. |
#4OninotakiNov 30, 2006 10:59:00 | I love the descriptions of each suit, and the bonus to confirm critical hits as the downside to piecemeal armor. I just have a few comments about each set. Light Caravan Armor: I dont think the max dex bonus should be so low. I am thinking maybe make it a +5 max dex. Light Gladiator Armor: I like alot, no changes. Medium Gladitor Armor: so as to not make this the same as the light caravan armor maybe change the max dex bonus to +4? That also bring it in line with other medium armors for a max ac bonus of 8. Medium Tyr-Armor: a great suit, maybe lower arcane spell failure to 25% and add a +1 bonus to confirm critcal hits? Tyrian Warsuit: its needs something more and a +1 bonus to confirm critical hits Heavy Gladiator armor: I have ideas, but nothing solid because I hate the stat line for splint mail and it really messes with my ability to stat up new heavy armors. I do think no matter what you come up with you should keep the +2 to confirm critical hits. |
#5bengeldornNov 30, 2006 14:19:00 | I love the descriptions of each suit, and the bonus to confirm critical hits as the downside to piecemeal armor. I just have a few comments about each set. Thanks a lot. I was concerned that the descriptions could be hard to understand, because I had to look up so many words in a dictionary. But it seems my concerns have been unreasonable. Light Caravan Armor: I dont think the max dex bonus should be so low. I am thinking maybe make it a +5 max dex. Well, first I had a max dex bonus of +4, but I thought this wouldn't be balanced to a chainmail.A +5 bonus is IMO too high, but I think increasing the max dex bonus to +4 while increasing the bonus to confirm criticals by 1 would be OK, I guess. Light Gladiator Armor: I like alot, no changes. Thanks a lot. Glad you like it. Medium Gladitor Armor: so as to not make this the same as the light caravan armor maybe change the max dex bonus to +4? That also bring it in line with other medium armors for a max ac bonus of 8. Maybe you are right. There aren't too many medium armors with a max dex bonus of +5, so maybe +4 would be better, but if I increase the max dex bonus of the light cravan armor, I should change something for the medium gladiator armor too, so that it wouldn't be less good as a light caravan armor. I'm thinking of reducing the bonus to confirm criticals by 1. Medium Tyr-Armor: a great suit, maybe lower arcane spell failure to 25% and add a +1 bonus to confirm critcal hits? I don't know. I mean, you have metal plates on your arms, and you need your arms to cast spells with somantic components. This in mind I think 25% are ok. I guess adding a +1 bonus to confirm criticals could be ok, especially comparing it with a breastplate armor. Tyrian Warsuit: its needs something more and a +1 bonus to confirm critical hits What do you mean with something more? This armor, although combining different materials, is a full suit. There are no holes that would justify a +1 bonus to confirm criticals IMO. Besides this armor is pretty expansive, adding the bonus would lower its use, thus I have to decrease the price, which I don't realy want to. Heavy Gladiator armor: I have ideas, but nothing solid because I hate the stat line for splint mail and it really messes with my ability to stat up new heavy armors. I do think no matter what you come up with you should keep the +2 to confirm critical hits. Actually, I don't really want a heavy gladiator armor, because IMO gladiators shouldn't wear heavy armor, as their fighting styles should realy on speed and special maneuvres. A gladiator in a heavy armor doesn't fit in my picture of a gladiator. Side note: Using these armors, a part of a gladiators armor optimization ability could be to reduces the bonus to confirm criticals. p.s.: Instead of "bonus to confirm criticals" I was thinking of adding a new column in the table called "AC-bonus vs confirming critical". What do you think? |
#6bengeldornMar 20, 2007 11:40:56 | I added two new suits of armor and made some changes in the armor's description. I hope you like them. @Pennarin: Could you add this thread to the archive, please. Thanks! |
