#1yellowdingoDec 26, 2006 20:58:43 | As of AC1025 Bargle the infamous begins opening gates from the plane of fire, earth, and air to create a volcano on every 24-mile hex that is the sunken continent of Alphatia. When he is done, the entire seabotttom will be covered in volcanoes. The new Continent of Infernus will rise from the ocean over the next two hundred years and the volcanic activity will cause the world of Mystara to plunge into an ice age. When he is done, the entire seabotttom will be covered in volcanoes. The new Continent of Infernus will rise from the ocean over the next two hundred years and the volcanic activity will cause the world of Mystara to plunge into an ice age. The core idea is pretty cool, but I think Bargle is mis-thinking if he thinks everyone around Alphatia is going to hang out for 200 years without trying to stop him. Also, he's going to need a lot of elemental assistance to do so many gates at once. How IS he making them all? |
#3yellowdingoDec 28, 2006 22:26:07 | He gates to plane of fire, gates out of plane of fire to precise location and wishes the gate permanent using artefact of Alphaks (his patron). Each volcano is on the sea floor (sunken Alphatia) and not likely to be noticed immediately. It takes him one day a year and he must kill an Alphatian and soak the ring in the Brains of a 36th level Alphatian wizard from the Council. There are almost a thousand scattered across the known and hollow world. This takes a month per Volcano/recharge cycle so he can do it in a thousand months and Alphaks will grant him immortality. |

The mortal world watched as the seas boiled and volcanoes erupted to the surface. fire and ashbegan to rebuild their sunken land. As the centuries passed and the necropolis of their lost were pushed to the surface by magma surges, drowned at the bottom of acid lakes or covered by great depths of ash and lava, mortal magic failed utterly in these new lands. as the artefact of Alphaks spread its poison. A thousand Volcanoes spewedpoisonous gasses into the sky as a dead Alphatia became infernus, a nightmare land of fire and ash, plunging Mystara into a dark age. -AC1500, From A Commentary on Infernus By Bargle the Immortal |

There are almost a thousand scattered across the known and hollow world. And all those 36th level wizards are just going to let themselves be butchered without reacting? Unlikely. The first few he'll probably catch by surprise. Those beyond will have likely heard something/somebody is stalking them and have taken steps to protect themselves. Not to mention the fact that I doubt Bargle can go from Hollow World to Surface World at will... |
#6havardJan 03, 2007 10:18:00 | I like the idea of Bargle gaining Immortality, and the Infernus continent sounds kinda interesting (A Superman reference, is it?), but the details of it, I'm not really that keen on. Havard |
#7gawain_viiiJan 03, 2007 21:55:52 | Good idea.. bad implementation. Two things right away: 1-Bargle certainly has a reason to harbor animosity towards Alphatia (their alliance with Karameikos cost him his job), so building a volcanic continent where Alphatia was would be a HUGE slap to the air-leaning Alphaitans. 2-Eriadne and Terari--both actively seeking immortality at the same time, would be seriously thwarted by Bargle's success. If there were a volcanic island in the way, neither could return Alphatia to the surface. The question is who wins? Does Alphatia return or is it replaced by Infernus? Roger |
