I have just aquired 54 Vistani Fortune Telling cards, I have no idea how to use them, I am also about to purchase the Forbidden Lore boxed set which they come in, however(I feel like I am in Ravenloft now!) the cards dice and instructions are missing from the set. Could anyone tell me how to use my cards or do I require the dice?

You don't need the dice to use the cards. The Forbidden Lore boxed set can tell you how to use them in your game, if it has the "Waking Dream" booklet inside; if that's one of the things that's missing, you might be able to find that booklet on eBay as a separate item.

If you have a copy of the RLDMG (the 3.5 book), it tells how to use the more-recent version of the Tarokka fotune-telling deck. A few of the cards are slightly different than the ones in the old deck from the 2E/AD&D Ravenloft products.

Either way, you really need a list of the cards' meanings to do a reading ... unless, of course, you just make it all up. Do it right, and your players will never know!

Thanks for that, I was so intrigued by the cards I made up most meanings for them last night, Vampirei in the Mysts novel has some descriptions.
What do the dice do though?

The dice are the "casting bones" of the people of Har Akir. Just another divination tool.

Actually, the fortune-telling scene from VotM was written before TSR's designers came up with Ravenloft's unique Tarokka deck. Thus, Jander's fortune was predicted using conventional Tarot cards, not the special cards invented for the game-setting.

Not that there's anything wrong with looking to that scene for inspiration, mind you: the whole Tarokka deck was inspired by the Tarot! But that's why you may not have found the actual cards from Jander's fortune in your deck of Ravenloft cards, in case you were looking for the Sun, the Tower, etc.

Here's an online version: http://www.intergate.com/~joneses/michael/tarokka.htm you can even draw cards online!
(I'm not sure if it uses the official rules though...)
