#1 stanles Feb 04, 2007 17:23:28	I just thought that I'd share some of the things from Dragon 352 that I thought might be interesting for possible inclusion into Mystara campaigns. Firstly there is a PC race, the Cactacae. It's basically a race of anthropomorphised catci. In Mystara it's been suggested previously that a race of such creatures live in the Adri Varma plateau, and Gilles Leblanc has created the race, the Stolari which is available on the Vaults. http://pandius.com/stolari.html The Cactacae give a different option for this sort of thing I suppose. I thought another race/monster in another article, the Anophelii, was quite interesting. They're basically a race of anthropomorphised mosquitoes*. I thought that they were kind of cool. * I've sometimes cringed at the previous Mystaran tendency of anthropomorphising creatures and creating races. Yeah I know that it's not Mystaran specific and it's a tendency of fantasy gaming, but Mystara has seemed to do fairly often. Even still I thought that mosquito people were interesting.

Indeed, the work of China Mieville (the issue seems to be mostly dealing with it) has several points of contact with Mystara -- lots of anthropormorphised animals, odd mix of high fantasy and steampunk, a floating city of pirates, etc.

That's funny, I just read the magazine myself and thought of the same thing. I will definately adapt the Cactae to Mystara, including their unusual weapons. Overall I really enjoyed this issue of Dragon. I havent read much of Mieville, but Bas Lag made for an interesting theme. I think I like themed issues the best. The Olman article (Savage Tide) and the part about Aztec Mythology also lend themselves well to Mystara for both the Hollow World (Oltec, Azcan) and the Thanegioth Archipelago. Havard
