This may have been discussed before, but for my n00b-ness... does anyone have/use the Sandstorm accessory book with their Dark Sun games?

I flipped through it at the store and nothing seriously leaped out at me. Did I miss anything significant? Obviously it has no Dark Sun specific information...

It has indeed been discussed pretty thoroughly a while back, but the thread will be buried several dozen pages back. In short, things that make it useful for DS campaigns are all pretty crunchy and rules-based:
-Dehydration and dessication rules
-Expanded desert weather and heat rules
-Terrain types to represent shallow and deep silt (the two types of sinking sand work really well for this)
-New terrain and hazard types to add variety
-Feats, spells and prcls (feats and spells in particular are very good for DS)
-Giant cactal treants!

I've used it pretty heavily in my own DS games, but as noted it is more useful for rules than background material.

This is the fourth thread that I know of asking about it. Two of those thread have actual indeapth discussions about the book. Almost makes me think someone should dredge up the old threads and link them to the archive for future reference..

I'd appreciate that if you know where the find the threads... I'm still on the fence about whether to get the book.

I just bought Sandstorm recently. My initial flip-through in the store didn't reveal anything amazing, but upon closer inspection I found a lot of good material in the form of terrain and environmental rules, and some interesting spells and feats. I was not impressed by the PrCs, but one of my players found one she loves: it involves transforming into a special desert-lich. Should be an interesting game...

I find that overall, the book is definitely worth it. The main things to look at are the rules for dehydration, terrain effects, and special types of sandstorms.

I use a blend of Sandstorm and Conan: Hyboria's Fiercest for terrain needs.

Hmmm... Hate to look like an ass...

Am I missing something then, Kal? Of the 72 threads I can view, none seemed to directly discuss Sandstorm...

On many forums I'd agree with you, but the WoTC's inability to get the "Search" functionality means that it's rather difficult to dig through old posts to find the topic in question.

Here is a thread I started which had a couple of links to other Sandstorm threads. I found that Sandstorm was a great purchase for when I run Dark Sun again.

Why is this the only forum in the entire world without a search function?

To cap the discussion, I went out and picked up Sandstorm as well... still reading through it, but so far seems like a great purchase for Dark Sun campaigns.

There's a thread on this, somewhere...
