Hi. I'm considering a character build for a DL campaign. My question is, does the setting have kobolds?

If not in Ansalon, perhaps in one of the other continent/regions?

Ansalon absolutely has kobolds. They are considered to belong to the bakali race, as well as having some relationship to goblins. They are not dragon-blooded creatures as represented in some WotC products, so I would hesitate going that route.

Two kobolds of note in the setting are Fetch, who was a sorcerer and rogue and followed the rogue knight Dhamon Grimwulf around for a while, and Master Yap, who is the first and only kobold in the Orders of High Sorcery (he's a black robed necromancer). Most are not spellcasters. A community of Reorx-faithful kobolds, neutral in alignment, lives in the town of Rockhorde near the Ogrelands north of Khur, but most kobolds are sadistic little bastards who enjoy trapping larger creatures and acting as bandits and thieves.

Cheers,
Cam

Thank you.
Is the version of kobold in the core rules monster manual totally replaced by the bakali, or just modified so they are no longer humanoid(reptilian) but humanoid(goblinoid), and I suppose they'd also speak goblin instead of draconic?

Flint Fireforge was captured by the kobolds at one point. He never wants to admit this but tis true. Tas claims that he rescued him.

They are exactly the same race. Bakali = MM lizardfolk, although the name is used to describe a larger group of reptilian humanoids such as troglodytes. Bakali speak Draconic because it was taught to them by the dragons, who they used to serve in the distant past. There is a larger, Medium variety of kobold called a slig, which appears in the Bestiary of Krynn.

No, he was captured by Gully Dwarves and doesn't ever want to talk about it. See "Flint the King", plus it is mentioned in passing in Tanis' thoughts in "Dragons of the Dwarven Depths" in the forest outside Thorbardin.

Thanks all, for the lore.

I found the slig and see that they and kobolds are both rumored to be bakali(lizardfolk)/goblinkind hybreds. I wanted to make sure my kobold had the right Dragonlance flavor to her.

Her race is kobold straight out of the MM, though I'll have to give her a slightly different flavored background than I first had in mind.

So going through the Races of the Dragon and the kobolds in there would not be a way to go for Dragonlance kobolds?

Actually, if u look at the maps in tasslehoffs map pouch: war of the lance, on the Ansalon in the War of the Lance map, it says, "Flint was captured by kobolds here once. But he'll never tell. (I saved him)." This is above Palanthas that Tas says this happened.
According to Tas, FLint was captured by Kobolds and let's face it, Tas is smarter than me and you put together.

While you could use some of the ideas in there, no, in most cases that's not how Krynnish kobolds work. We'll talk about them and the other bakali in Dragons of Krynn, due out later this year.

Ahh, I missed that, I thought maybe you had just been slightly confused. Sorry for the correction that shouldn't have been.

And, yes, you are correct, Tas is much smarter and wiser LOLOL :D

Well a possible explaination for that is that Tas might have figured it was more fun to be captured by kobolds (which are apparently more rare than gully dwarves) and therefore might have told the story the way it should have been rather than the way it actually happened, because the gods know there is no way Flint could have been "captured" by gully dwarves. :D :D :D

It is also possible that Flint told everybody that it was really kobolds rather than gully dwarves as this might have been more acceptable to his dwarven pride.
