Hey all.

I just wanted to drop a quick note to all of you and say that I am sorry if lately I have not been replying to e-mails or taking part in much of the discussions happening here - and for not getting some material to people who I was working with on some things.

For the last three weeks, I have been writing a short story that I plan on submitting to the Writers of the Future - a quarterly competition that is in like it's 24th year. It has taken every moment of time I have not been at work or with my family. Just last night I finished the first hand-written draft of my story (which is at an estimated word count of 16,000). Some of you know that I have been working on writing and developing a world and setting all of my own for a few years now and it has finally taken hold and a good deal of progress has been made in these last few weeks.

The reason for the almost absolute absence from interaction here on the message board or through e-mail is because I set myself a goal of completing this story and having it polished and finalized by March 31st - which is only like 6 weeks away. It may seem like a long time, but there is going to be some major editing and such that takes place and I have a few great people who have volunteered to read the story and give me feedback in time for me to make any final revisions.

I will get those projects I am working on for Dark Sun done, and those of you who have been waiting for some material, I thank you for your patience but ask that you just wait a little longer.

Thanks all - questions, comments, and spamming can now commence :P

I realize that you are a bit sad Bruno - poor Onurb got what he deserved in the end though! But do not worry, I left out some most of the weeping, begging, and little-girly screams that he made

Thank you for sharing your cherished dream of yours and congradulation in having the courage to go all the way till the end.
Yes, courage, because it's not always obvious. I know... I tried and failed literaly. ( I was supose to write a story about a Rhul-Thaun by the name of Jihun-nish remember!!) I know I have great ideas... just cant write then in a way it'll please the ''audience''

Anyway I tell you s**w us if we cant wait an other few weeks for your DS projects. A personnal Dream is more inportant so go for it and never mind what we think (although I'm sure all of us are with you --in thoughts-- in your initiative.

Buy the way!! What were those project anyway?? Been so long, cant remember what they were! :evillaugh

Thanks fellas – I have high hopes, but even if I do not win, I will have a nice start on a section of the book I want to write, so this is a win-win situation for me.

I hope that soon I may be setting up a web site similar to that of greyorm's and Nytcrawlr's - that way I can have a little more customization for how I want to present some of my other short pieces - and that way I can have a cool web site too. And then too, I would have a place to host the great concept art that Sage has drawn for me - it is nice!

Last night I started on another short story - this one is just for fun and is more of a teaser then anything, but it is of a scene that I have been dreaming up for a while. So, while my wonderful wife transcribes my chicken scratches and while I do some editing, I will also type up this new piece and post it on MySpace - hummm...maybe I should put a link to it in my fabulous signature

...I've got the feeling that you're using a completely different definition of the word "fabulous" in regards to your signature, Kal. :P

Good luck/job/whatever, though - hope ya win!

If you mean that the definition that I am using means "Awesome and a pure genies of creative talent, given physical form for all to see and realize that their lives and insignificant in comparison" then yes - that is the definition that I mean!

:P

Keep it up and things on hard drives could get deleted - you pick'en up what I am lay'en down here

Prior to the second paragraph I was going to say "yes, something like that," but then you had to go and be a big innuendo-bully and make me cry. Meanie.

Okay - I finished my first edited draft of the short story and I have sent it out to those of my peeps who have said they would review it for me.

I think it is awesome but I am sure it could use some tightening up.

Anyway - so this means I will be getting back to working on some of my DS stuff that has been collecting dust

Later all - just thought I would drop an update.

What, you think something you created yourself is awesome? The odds!

Hehe, joking, I'll print it today and start reading it right away.

Yeah, I'd love to see it as well.

...but not if it'll take away from your precious PrC-finishing-up time. ;)

Well...I could open up the number of proof-readers, but you guys would be under the "No sharing" rule - and you would have to make a blood-oath to buy my book when it came out :P

Satan has already told me that I can't do any more "blood oaths" - apparently I didn't read the fine print of one particular contract I signed.

...But if you get published I'll definitely buy your book. After all, you're holding a PrC hostage, and unlike the U.S. Government I *am* willing to negotiate with hostage-takers.

You must have reached the part where all the girly screams are - don't be so sad, Bruno. I may write a prelude to this story some day.

For anyone who is interested - here is a little taste of another story I am writing.

I do have a short Dark Sun story - and I may just post that here soon too - but this is set in my own world/setting that I have been developing.

Clang! Ching! Ching, ching, clang!

The song of steel rippled through the cold morning air, radiating like waves through the early morning quite.
Sun dappled branches and green spring leaves dripped with dew, as only a single sun had crested the horizon at this early hour.

The source of the early morning ruckus was currently moving, blocks, swinging, and gracefully stepping through the sparse undergrowth and years of fallen debris that littered the forest floor.

Two figures struggled in the dim light of the newly risen sun, but anyone that had been awake for the last several hours would know that this struggle had been carrying on for quite a while, and that soon, most likely before the second son had time to rise, the conflict between the two would reach its conclusion.

Where there had recently been seven healthy and vigorous individuals, there were now only two straining and exhausted foes, squared off and fighting to be the one left standing in the new day. Stretched out over a half a league, five bodies grew colder even as the sun rising in the distance spread it’s warmth.

The two combatants were almost mirror images of one another, but polar opposites at the same time.

Both figures were clad head to toe in masterfully forged armor, each piece and section molded and shaped to fit the wearer’s body as if it were a second skin. The star-speckled, black steel armour by one could only have belonged to an Imperial Knight of the Trine, the keepers of justice and the hand of the Emperor of the Nine Kingdoms. Even if one the off chance someone other then a knight had fit into the armour, the utterly smooth and faceless helm that the figure wore made that possibility as slim as a duren marrying a Valkyrin warrior – such a thing would never happen.

The other warrior also wore the armour of an Imperial Knight, and while the armour was almost identical and the faceless helm was securely fitted over the individuals head, that was where the similarities ended. In the early morning sunlight that streamed through gaps in the canopy above, the second figures whole form seemed to glow in the early light. Where one looked like the night sky; black and speckled with tiny gleams of light, the other was a radiant and perfect white.

The speed and strength in the two armour clad foes was inhuman. Considering the duration of the battle and the relentless, continuous ringing as swords or war-arm met and deflected another killing stroke. It was said that the Imperial Knights could draw life through the very metal of their armour to augment their own abilities. But even if such a tale was true, and these two held such power, no one could maintain this level of unbroken combat forever.

The signs were barely discernible, but for warriors such as this, even the smallest shift of focus, a slight slip, or sluggish response to a cut could spell doom for either of the two in a struggle such as the one now taking place.

Hey - I know this is not DS talk - but I have another new short story, named Stars of Night, that I finished (the one with the robot ninja pirate) and would like to offer people the chance to read it.

Seeing as I do not have a website of my own where I can host the doc for people to download and because reading it on a computer screen is a hassle (it is 4,467 words in lengt - too long to post as a blog on Myspace I think) I thought I would put the offer out that if you e-mail me or send me an IM, I will send you a PDF of the doc - as long as you know that this is my intellectual property and should not be used for any other use than for you to read without my express permission.

Anyway - if you are interested - let me know!
