#1turloughFeb 22, 2007 8:50:31 | Greetings! So, I am reading the original boxed set again, and I get to the point of Halfling gatherings at the chief's homes in the ruins. It says that part of the reason they meet is because this is when the chief gives the halfling rangers their powers. Really? Is that a left over from the life shapers? Or was this the Wanderer misinterpreting something? Just curious if anyone has done anything with it. Thanks! Have a good one! Take care! turlough |

It has probably something to do with lesser spirits of the land or the imbue with spell ability spell. |

#5turloughFeb 22, 2007 13:32:38 | Oh, I don't need a PrC. I guess it was one of those things that really struck me, that really stood out as I was reading it. I mean, is it on the level of the SKs? Or just a minor thing? Perhaps it isn't really needed but the chiefs don't say that to maintain some control. There is obviously lots that can be done with it. I was asking here to see if it was a throw away statement that they put in for flavor, or if it was something developed later. Thanks! Have a good one! Take care! turlough |

I don't think that the text is implying that the cheifs are the source of the Rangers power, but that they preform a ritual asking the SoL to grant the Ranger his power and thusly grant it in a formal ritualized sense. It just like in primitive cultures where there are rights of acension, you might undergo a ritual under the supervision of the shaman whereby you are declared a man, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't grow up and become a man if he didn't preform the ritual (even though the tribe may look at it a little differently). |
