#1SonjaMar 05, 2007 0:01:59 | Where can I find good pictures of erdlu, mekillot, kanks and all the common animals of DS? I have the 2nd edition books, but all of these were lumped together in the monstrous compendium and don't have separate pictures of each one. Which ones are the really gigantic ones used for pulling large caravans? Which ones are the more upright lizard ones that pull smaller carts? |
#2OninotakiMar 05, 2007 0:24:10 | erdlu are the large upright birdlike lizards that are often used as mounts or too pull small carts. Kanks are the bug looking creatures that are also often used as mounts or to pull small carts Merkillot are the very large(huge in D&D rules) lizards that are used to pull massive caravan wagons Crodlu are large upright velociraptor type lizards that are often used as mounts, and to pull chariots. The War Crodlu is the DarkSun version of the European WarHorse. Inix are large lizards that are larger then all the rest aside from the merkillot, and they actually just look like a lizard. It is used as a mount for half-giants, to pull large carts and to carry a howdah. None of these creatures are noted as being particuarlly(sp?) friendly lol. Good Pics of most of them can be found in the original wanderers journal, and the 1st Darksun Monsters Compendium. I think that covers all of the more common draft animals of Athas. |

#4zombiegleemaxMar 05, 2007 7:25:39 | The 2ed version is: Clockwise starting from the left: Inix, merkillot, kank, erdlu. Crodul look a bit like an erdul but bigger and beefier. |
#5mouthymercMar 05, 2007 8:04:25 | Here are some crodlu: |
#6zombiegleemaxMar 05, 2007 8:25:00 | Crodlu also have cooler looking heads than erdlu. |
#7cnahumckMar 05, 2007 11:22:29 | and they have arms. |
#8mouthymercMar 05, 2007 11:46:42 | Here's the more recent colour picture from the paizo version. And here is an erdland, a larger version of the erdlu. And here's a close up of the erdlu. Pictures of them are not too common. |
#9elonarcMar 05, 2007 17:08:57 | Meh, revised edition pictures. Wondrous new kanks, mekillots and inix all over the place... |
#10zombiegleemaxMar 09, 2007 2:34:29 | Those aren't what you're looking for. Those are heretics. |
#11kalthandrixMar 09, 2007 8:57:07 | I hate those pics from Paizo - they look like dinosaurs for gods sake! |
#12mouthymercMar 09, 2007 10:31:54 | Here are some earlier pictures of the inix, kank and mekillot. |
#13elonarcMar 10, 2007 12:40:26 | Thanks a lot for these *real* versions! |
#14pringlesMar 10, 2007 15:13:04 | The old kank and Inix version are the best. As for the mekilot, I prefer the revised one. The old look like a giant coakroach or something like that. |
#15ruhl-than_sageMar 11, 2007 14:06:15 | Out of all the Inix pictures, I like the revised campaign setting one the best. AS for the Mekillot, I don't like any of them as much as the image in my head :D |
#16zombiegleemaxMar 13, 2007 13:20:27 | AS for the Mekillot, I don't like any of them as much as the image in my head :D Time to take up drawing. |
#17ruhl-than_sageMar 14, 2007 18:50:47 | Time to take up drawing. :heehee |
#18dzaukuMar 14, 2007 19:22:28 | If brom did not draw it I did not pu *** into the " Dark Sun " theme. The art for the expeanded " revised " - read BUTCHERED - version of dark sun was Atrocious in my opinion. Well the rendering was well done and clean but the design was just silly looking. |
#19divisionbyzer0Jan 16, 2009 3:17:39 | Meh, revised edition pictures. Wondrous new kanks, mekillots and inix all over the place... Revised pics are really bad. I wished they kept brom and the other people. |

I take anything done by Brom/Baxa to be the accurate pictures personally Brom's Mekilot is the one my group uses for referance. I guess we played dark sun since its first box sets and that was the first real picture i recall seeing of a mekilot |
