#1ravenloftlover347Mar 14, 2007 15:32:56 | I'm trying to find if there is a flesh-eating horse in any of the printed books. I thought there was one in Fiend Folio, but since I don't currently own the book, I can't look for it. Does anyone know if such a monstrosity already exists, or if not, a name for such a creature from legends? I plan on using this creature for an adventure I'm going to run. |
#2paladin2019Mar 15, 2007 0:41:37 | Yep, my character's ;) One of my characters in a horror themed game had a horse that became tainted and could only subsist on meat. Let me re-phrase, my character never bought a horse, didn't have any appropriate horse skills, and "found", "discovered" if you will, the horse when he had to leave town in a hurry. So when the horse's preferences changed, he didn't really notice, he just fed the horse what it wanted. (DM::evillaugh) |

You can Google or Wiki either of those. As for the reverse, horse was very common on the restaurant menus & meat counters each time I went to Europe last year. I can attest that it is very good in a light green pepper sauce, with some pomme frites & a nice Bordeaux. |

#6ravenloftlover347Mar 16, 2007 16:46:19 | Thank you for your help. I was thinking both Kelpie and Phooka. I think Phooka maybe be flesh-eating, and if not, well, I can just work something out to make an offshoot of them so. Thank you to everyone. |
#7zombiegleemaxMar 17, 2007 13:59:21 | Dont nightmares eat flesh? |
#8rotipherMar 17, 2007 17:45:16 | Shadow unicorns from the RL monster books are omnivorous, with a preference for sentient prey (either flesh or intelligent plants). |
#9ravenloftlover347Mar 18, 2007 16:54:49 | Aren't the shadow unicorns outsiders though? Unfortunately, I don't have Denisens of Dread to look them up in right now. Remember, most outsiders have reality wrinkles. Nightmares do eat flesh, but I'm trying to go with a magical beast and not an outsider. Any chance I could get those stats on those Diomedian Horses? |
#10kwdbladeMar 19, 2007 1:42:38 | Its amazing how many people mix these two up. There are two types of Unicorn-ish creatures in Ravenloft. 1) Dread Nightmare, which yes, are outsiders. 2) Shadow Unicorns, which are magical beasts. I found it strange that none of the outsiders in the Denizens of Dread mention reality wrinkles. Guess thats just something you need to add yourself... |
#11rotipherMar 19, 2007 14:48:19 | Most of the "outsiders" in DoD are unique to Ravenloft, which strongly implies they are native (or possibly Mistborn) rather than extraplanar. A few might need the Mists subtype added, but not reality wrinkles. |
#12ravenloftlover347Mar 22, 2007 15:50:49 | The Skarphove of Nova Vaasa are flesh-eating horses. Does anybody have any stats on them? Were the stats ever cannon? The mention of them is in Ravenloft Gazateer V. |
#13ravenloftlover347Apr 09, 2007 20:15:11 | I'm taking a new approach to this. I'm planning on making the monster part of a curse. The inflicted was a horse thief. He stole some horses from a Vistani caravan, and thus was cursed. More on that if there is any interest. |
