#1Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 15, 2007 23:27:18 | From my re-design of the Wasp, which had some serious problems with the original SJ design: http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/sj/wasp/wasp_card1.jpg http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/sj/wasp/deck1s.gif http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/sj/wasp/decks2.gif Not 100% sure on tonnage etc...when I rebuilt the ship it was obvious much deckspace was left out below decks, I can work out the exact volume of the ship, from my 3d art program, but can't recall the formula folk devised for equating that to SJ terms. 25,413 cubic feet, fyi. Made a re-creation of the gorgeous card-style illustrations, best as I can do, and new deck plans. What ya think? |
#2zombiegleemaxMar 16, 2007 3:05:23 | I like your wasp so much! Do I have your permission to print it and use it as a ship card in play? |
#3Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 16, 2007 3:41:02 | Thank you ) sure that's what it's for, for folk to use, hope there shouldn't be copyright problems as it's re-worked, not direct copy and still needs SJ stuff to be used. Fan art, and the original ship was a bit borked in actual mechanics ;) Wish I knew who original designer of the ship's was so I can credit him, he rocked! |
#4jaidMar 16, 2007 12:44:29 | Not 100% sure on tonnage etc...when I rebuilt the ship it was obvious much deckspace was left out below decks, I can work out the exact volume of the ship, from my 3d art program, but can't recall the formula folk devised for equating that to SJ terms. 100 cubic yards = 1 spatial ton (that is, 1 SJ ton). 1 cubic yard = 9 cubic feet. therefore, for every 900 cubic feet, you should have 1 spatial ton. a few seconds with a calculator gives me 1 little bit over 28 spatial tons for your modified wasp... reduce all dimensions by 64% to get a proper 18 ton lizard man vessel, if you so desire (though of course, at that point the ceilings would be quite low...) |
#5Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 16, 2007 22:00:24 | ah good 28 tons is fine, original design was..impractical to be mild ;) |
#6nerikMar 19, 2007 7:23:20 | 100 cubic yards = 1 spatial ton (that is, 1 SJ ton). 1 cubic yard = 9 cubic feet. therefore, for every 900 cubic feet, you should have 1 spatial ton. Err... actually 1 cubic yard = 27 (3 |
#7jaidMar 19, 2007 18:07:56 | hmmm... right you are. and actually, the original wasp was 18 spatial tons :P obviously you need to create some more space then, silverblade... your ship is actually a half-sized version :P (and to think, from what i understand you *added* to the deckplans... what did they have before, something the size of the mosquito???) |
#8Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 20, 2007 7:21:13 | well .pdf on Beyond the moons says 50 cubic yards = 1 ton 1,350 cubic feet. so it wold be 18.5 tons! |
#9jaidMar 20, 2007 16:52:58 | funny... my copy (digital) of the WCC says 100 cubic yards (page 59, war captain's guide). i would have hoped they got it right.... particularly since that matches what my original boxed set (again, digital) says... (page 25 of the concordance of arcane space, if i'm not mistaken) |
#10Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 22, 2007 15:08:54 | ah it's the 3rd ed rules in the pdf I'm reffering to ;) it seems to tally up closer to ships, because 25,413 cubic feet = 9 tons doesn't make sense really. if you look at my animation, or cut aways, you can see the size of the vessel, to suggest that = 9 displacment tons isn't very believable, hm? http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/sj/htm/wasp.htm |
#11jaidMar 24, 2007 7:41:37 | ah it's the 3rd ed rules in the pdf I'm reffering to ;) ummm.... given that your program calculated it as being 9 tons, i'm going to say that you're clearly wrong... it is pretty believable that your wasp is a 9 ton ship :P what is not believable is that the original wasp is 18 tons ;) [edit] keep in mind that we're talking about spelljammer tons, which i don't believe are actually based on any form of real life tonnage, though i could be wrong there... [/edit] |
#12Silverblade_The_EnchanterMar 25, 2007 6:24:53 | well long as we can work out a standard I'll be happy ;) As said I can work out exact columes, even for individual rooms also, should things like the squidships rams be used for displacement or just "usable" hull areas? |
#13nerikMar 26, 2007 9:28:12 | also, should things like the squidships rams be used for displacement or just "usable" hull areas? I'd say that rams and such should count towards the total, considering that the limit on how big a ship a helm can drive is based on it. Chasles |
