#1sareldMar 18, 2007 20:03:21 | I am trying to develop my first character for a dragonlance game, but I have run into a slight problem; I am gunning for the divine crusader class, but I have no clue what the gods of Krynn are like, and I would really like to be able to adjust my characters behaviour to match that of a follower of his god from day one. A brief summary of my character background and personality: My character is a Kagonesti elf, who happens to be the son of a chief in a rather large tribe, settled in . He is a strong and handsome elf, and he likes nothing better than to compete in physical competition, practice (and showing off) his already excellent martial abilities, and to sweep the ladies off their feet. In other words, he likes anything that will boost his already oversized ego, and his tribe loves him for it. However, though he IS rather selfish and vain, he still feels a strong responsibility towards his people, and he has decided to improve the relations between the tribesmen and the nearby population of non-Kagonesti elves to encourage trade, and the way to do that when you are a walking pile of ego, is of course to travel out in the world and find and marry the most beautiful female member of the other elven race in question. Now, I have decided that as he gains expirience he becomes more and more religious, until he finally adopts the Divine Crusader PrC.. but what diety will suit him? I originally developed this character concept to fit an ordinary wild elf in a generic standard d&d world, where Kord would have been an obivous choice, but as my DM recently brought the dragonlance campaign setting and decided to run his games in Krynn that is sadly not an option anymore. As my character loves his own physical strength and physical competition, I would like him to gain access to the strength domain, though domains that has to do with rulership would also fit the bill rather nicely. As for the favored weapon, I have no love for any other weapons than the greatsword, as it is a huge and phallic weapon that apart from being a good weapon also looks highly ornamental, opposed to more classic favored weapons like staffs, flails, dagger or one handed swords.. Greatswords are just the only weapon that really suits my characters style. For the alignment I would like the god to be either CG, CN or TN, as those alignments are the only ones that suits the kind of personality I am brewing for him. Does such a god exist in dragonlance? PS: To those of you who remember me asking for advice on a silvanesti rogue/wizard, my DM asked me to drop the concept. Playing a renegade is aparently not something he would like me to try before I know the world better. |

#3zombiegleemaxMar 19, 2007 0:29:08 | Perhaps Sirrion would be a good choice? |
#4sareldMar 19, 2007 2:43:12 | I am against stereotyping, so a greatsword will fit my elf just fine. Why wouldnt it? There will be no flowers engraved on the blade either, and I will have no ranks in art skills. My character will on the other hand need the biggest, shiniest and most oversized weapon that he can lift off the ground. Had he lived in this world he would have carried a .50AE Desert Eagle, simply because it is blatantly oversized, and goes with his ego. What is Sirrion like? |

#6cam_banksMar 19, 2007 9:04:05 | Your alignment will also factor in here. You can't be more than one step away from the god's alignment, especially if you're being a divine crusader, so if you're dead set on a specific alignment (like chaotic good, or lawful evil) your choices will be limited. Only two of the Krynnish gods have Strength as a domain: Kiri-Jolith, the LG god of righteous warfare, and Reorx, the N god of the forge and craftsmanship. Taking Reorx as a patron would be a pretty odd thing for an elf to do, as he's usually associated with dwarves, but no Krynnish god is restricted to any one race. Sirrion is the CN god of passion and fire, so that might work out well (especially if you're CN or CG). No Strength domain, but you can choose from Chaos, Charm, Fire, and Passion, which are all interesting choices. Passion, for instance, allows you to rage like a barbarian. There isn't a Krynnish god with the greatsword as a favored weapon, unfortunately. If you want to go with that, you're on your own! Cheers, Cam |
#7sareldMar 19, 2007 12:33:36 | Neat.. I already thought about how great the rage ability would fit my character, so I have planned 6 levels of barbarian. Sirrion does sound like the closest thing to my guy, though the heavy flail feels a bit 'meh' to me, but maybe thats because I had my mind set on an elven version of Conan. I apologize for my ignorance, Of course I should read the material myself. Sorry. Thanks a lot for your help. |
#8zombiegleemaxMar 19, 2007 12:56:03 | Reading the material is always a good thing. If you then have questions, or you dont understand something or need a clarification, then by all means, ask. That is what the majority of us do!:D |
