And is he still in Norwold pestering the dwarves of Stormhaven at 1000AC? And I've always wondered if he was someones character? Could be Douglas Niles, but I seem to remember Frank saying he created the wizard himself just to have a creator of these big monsters in the Companion set. CM1 where Gargantua appears (written by Niles) is also published after the Companion Rules (or so I assume), so that supports that theory. I wrote an article about Gargantua that is still available on pandius, though I'm not quite happy with it. My idea was that Gargantua is an Alphatian wizard. I also linked him to the Isle of Dread, though with the STAP and all, perhaps the Isle of Dread is getting enough attention as it is, and it might be better to keep him in Norwold. What we do know about Gargantua is that he is mad. And that he is obsessed with creating Huge monsters. There has been some speculation about what that is all about... Interestingly, he is one of only a handful of characters mentioned by name in the Mentzer boxed sets... Havard |

There has been some speculation about what that is all about... He's just the fantasy equivalent of a macho male obsessed with monster-sized trucks. Probably overcompensating for something. ;) It just occured to me, why is Gargantua stealing a forge of power in CM1? He needs to make really big weapons and armor for his gargantuan creatures? |

Actually, it's a full-length collaborative adventure (with possible sequel), but your suggestions make for some interesting tie-in articles. GGG |
