#1elondirMar 26, 2007 15:09:30 | Does the Blood Sea have red water? |
#2zombiegleemaxMar 26, 2007 18:26:12 | The answer is in the question. |
#3darthsylverMar 26, 2007 19:46:42 | It did. |
#4cam_banksMar 26, 2007 20:48:18 | It was the red sands and silt dragged up from the bottom of the Maelstrom that gave it that red color, not the water itself. Cheers, Cam |
#5elondirMar 27, 2007 7:45:07 | Yeah, I was trying to figure that out, based on that old painting from the 80's. Thanks! About how far out do you suppose the maelstrom colors the water? 10 miles? |
#6lancereaverMar 27, 2007 8:06:15 | Yeah, I was trying to figure that out, based on that old painting from the 80's. Thanks! About how far out do you suppose the maelstrom colors the water? 10 miles? I would think all the way to the bottom, what about you guys? |
#7zombiegleemaxMar 27, 2007 8:31:47 | I concur. |
#8elondirMar 27, 2007 12:18:23 | Well, yeah, all the way to the bottom, but how far out from the maelstrom, along the surface of the water? |
#9lancereaverMar 27, 2007 14:11:17 | There's a good map of the Blood Sea in The Companions, but it doesn't go that far into detail. If I had to guess, though, I'd say not more than a couple yards from the shoreline is where the water starts gaining its red hue. |
#10zombiegleemaxMar 27, 2007 17:33:08 | Is the COMPANIONS one of the Meetings Sextant books? |
#11darthsylverMar 27, 2007 22:31:11 | Yes it is the 6th book of the meetings sextant. |
#12zombiegleemaxMar 27, 2007 23:17:36 | Perhaps I will have to read that story, if still in print. |
#13darthsylverMar 28, 2007 0:14:41 | I believe it has the infamous "Caramon drowning Flint story" but I am not sure, it has been awhile since read it. |
#14lancereaverMar 28, 2007 8:15:14 | Sorry, but The Companions does not have the "Caramon drowning Flint" story. I've never read that story as it happened, only when it was told. The Companions starts off with Sturm, Caramon, and Tasslehoff in a shipwreck and ending up on, I think, Mithas. Then Tanis, Raistlin, and Flint go to rescue them, crossing through ogre territory and sailing through the Blood Sea. Kitiara meets with them later, but in the beginning, she's hunting leucrotta with her uncle. |
#15rath_the_rangerMar 28, 2007 8:35:17 | Does the Blood Sea have red water? Nope, after the theft of Krynn by Takhisis, she turned it purple with green polka dots. HAHAHA J/K:D |
#16zombiegleemaxMar 28, 2007 11:12:29 | I do not remember the name of the book (it might have been in the DoaNA trilogy), but i could have sworn 2 of teh characers had a conversation that went something like this: "why is the Blood Sea red?" "becuase the Mealstrom kicks up the red sand from the bottom of the sea." "yeah, but the Maelstrom is no longer here, so why is it still red?" "hmmm, good question" |
#17lancereaverMar 28, 2007 14:11:25 | I remember a conversation like that too. But it wans't in DoaNA, it was in Bridges of Time, Spirit of the Wind. Is that what you're talking about, or did they have a similar conversation in a different book? |
#18zombiegleemaxMar 28, 2007 14:23:26 | Presumably, the silt hasn't settled out of suspension yet. What? Some of us paid attention in middle school chem. Oggie |
#19zombiegleemaxMar 28, 2007 15:05:27 | To be honest Lance, I really dont remember. It could have been Spirit of the Wind (its been years so the books tend to blend together). I thought it was one of those "holy Cow" plot points that really made you think that something you always accepted as fact, was in reality something totally different. I would hate to see it be explained away as simply as teh sand hadn't yet settled |
#20zombiegleemaxApr 07, 2007 19:54:44 | Does the Blood Sea have red water? Does the Red Sea in our world have red water? Can the Maelstorm the complete sea make red? Who will drink or wash with this water? |
#21lancereaverApr 11, 2007 8:26:04 | ...I might:D |
#22zombiegleemaxApr 11, 2007 10:28:25 | Does the Red Sea in our world have red water? Can the Maelstorm the complete sea make red? Who will drink or wash with this water? The red sea in our world does not have red water. According to Wikipedia: It may signify the seasonal blooms of the red-colored cyanobacteria Trichodesmium erythraeum near the water surface. Some suggest that it refers to the mineral-rich red mountains nearby which are called Harei Edom (הרי אדום). Edom, meaning "ruddy complexion", is also an alternative Hebrew name for the red-faced biblical character Esau (brother of Jacob), and the nation descended from him, the Edomites, which in turn provides yet another possible origin for Red Sea. Another hypothesis is that the name comes from the Himarites, a local group whose own name means red.[citation needed] Yet another theory favored by some modern scholars is the name red is referring to the direction south, the same way the Black Sea's name may refer to north. The basis of this theory is that some Asiatic languages used color words to refer to the cardinal directions[citation needed]. Herodotus on one occasion uses Red Sea and Southern Sea interchangeably. A final theory suggests that it was named so because because it borders the Egyptian Desert which the ancient Egyptians called the Dashret or "red land"; therefore it would have been the sea of the red land. |
#23zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2007 7:45:43 | The Blood Sea is actually purple. |
#24lancereaverApr 12, 2007 8:06:55 | Only after I bathed in it. |
#25zombiegleemaxApr 13, 2007 20:50:58 | Lance, that is not true. Who said you bathe? |
#26lancereaverApr 16, 2007 8:08:11 | Oh har har Trey. After the geas, I have to bathe for frequently, otherwise everyone will see the dirt and grime caked on my body.:P |
#27zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2007 20:50:27 | :P Well at least there is ONE postive thing to come from your geas!! :P |
