I heard about the cancelation (or lapse or pulling of) of the license for Dragonlance setting. I am just wondering,

Is Dragonlance Dead?

The license may have been pulled, by Dragonlance is far from dead.

Heavens above, no! WotC is pulling a few licenses back to their chests at the moment and DL happens to be one of them. The novels are still being produced and MWP still have the rights to sell DL books until March 2008 (someone correct me if I'm wrong, please).

In all, the lack of supplements doesn't mean that the setting is dead. The mere presence of these forums, populated by good Krynn-loving souls will see to that.

And until the WotC gaming police break down your door and confiscate your DL books :D , there is no reason why you can't continue to play.

Just make sure that you drop by and say hi on the forums from time to time.

Dragonlance is only dead if you want to.
Wotc may pull a few licenses back to their chests, but that doesn't mean dragonlance is dead. If the flame in your hart still burns for dragonlance, nobody can kill dragonlance. Dragonlance Rules!!!!

Mysterious times may come to Krynn, but they will pass.

Right, they can produce books through the end of this year, and sell them through March 2008.

Not only these forums, but also DragonlanceForums.com. And don't forget about the Nexus!

LOL!

The key thing is that so long as people are fans of Dragonlance, then it still lives.

Say it loud, say it proud.

Long Live the Lance!

Well, it took me long enough to find this forum, but better late than never.

If Dragonlance really is dead (and please, please let it be not) then WotC may have just killed their largest and best source of literature. Some of my friends read the Dragonlance novels and don't play D&D. Some either don't know or don't care that's what it's based around. Dragonlance has been around since damn near the beginning, and killing it would be a blow to the community like cancelling Dungeon and Dragon Magazines.

Long live the Lance.

Wait a minute, it just hit me. Are you saying that WoTC stopped making dragon magazines? Or is it just that Paizo lost the contract to make the magazines and WoTC now publishes the magazine or what?

Ah, it wasn't something I paid much attention to :P Never a huge fan of the magazines myself, I just noticed a lot of anger on the boards over Dungeon and Dragon being killed. I think you're right about Paizo losing the contract. They have an article about it on the D&D Homepage. Or here.

Jeeze, these things were announced like two months ago, and you've forgotten already?

The magazines are toast, because Wizards yanked the license so as to steer subscribers to their new online subscription service. Technically, they should already be gone, but WotC allowed Paizo to finish the current Adventure Path.

DL's license was allowed to lapse for as yet not really explained reasons. Current favorite of the rumor mill is that WotC got a little too annoyed with certain scheduling delays.

I don't think they killed Dragonlance novel series, just the game. Margaret Weis would still be glad to write Dragonlance novels for WotC.

So that is the reason?

So that is the reason?

No, it isn't. Much as I am sure you'd be fine with that.

Perhaps it is a conspiracy?

Yeah. That's what it all comes down to. They cancelled the magazines and tried to kill Dragonlance because somebody on the inside knows where they filmed the moon landing.

Why in the world would WoTC care? It's not like there's anything Sovereign Press ever failed to actually publish.

Either the moon landing or proof of the existance of wooly mammoths.

I could actually see where WotC would care about scheduling, since they own the intellectual property and it might reflect badly on them if the IP was consistently late. Especially since they control the novels.

That being said, this is one of the more laughable conspiracy theories I've heard of late. It suggests that Code Monkey and Paizo were "consistently late."

Next thing you know, we'll hear of alien abductions and Elvis sightings. :P

This would be the first time I have heard of this as a reason. I didn't subscribe per se, but had a standing order at the local comic shop. I don't ever recall recieving an issue late.
As far as supply went, I think they did a capital job.

The magazines were always on time. I had subscriptions to both of them.
