I was going over some of the books (Novels and RPG Books) and I have a question. I don't read alot about PLanar Travel in Dragonlance. Spells like Plane Shift either don't exist or don't seem to be used that often. Since the Clerics are gone, and there are no Sorcerers, only the Wizards would have access to it. I would think that after the Cataclysm, most of the Mages that had the spell would have left Krynn altogether. You also don't hear of many characters in the books mentioning other planes of existance, besides the Abyss. It seems in Krynn, if you want to travel other planes you need a device to do it. It is almost as if the Gods want the people of Krynn to stay on Krynn and not be diluted with PLanar Hopping. So I was thinking of taking away any type of PLanar Travel Spells from the lists. Before I do this, is my interpretation wrong? Do they do alot of Planar Travel and I have just missed it (I haven't read all 150 books btw). My game involves bringing my group from FR to Krynn. I want them to be stranded for awhile so they can get the full flavor and splendor of Dragonlance. So getting rid of PLanar Travel spells would help alot. I just don't want to ruin the Dragonlance feel by my tweaks. What say you? |

You might simply not allow any magical travel to the three outer planes, or you might allow travel to one of the many "pocket planes" or border realms that exist within the Gray (the Ethereal/Astral/Shadow trifold plane) and which are heavily influenced by the outer planes. Many outsiders don't in fact reside in the Abyss or Dome of Creation but in these demiplanes aligned to those outer planes. Cheers, Cam |

In the books Tales of Uncle Trapspringer and the Seventh Sentinel we hear of planar travel. I don't recall if the demon in Uncle Trapspringer came from the abyss or somewhere else, but I am quite certain that the Lost Citadel does not reside in the abyss. |

#5zombiegleemaxJul 03, 2007 22:26:26 | That's right. It's sitting in my backyard. Anyway, the only way to travel to one of the outer planes seems to be if a) one has the necessary tuning fork, which implies that the person knows the exact frequency at which that plane is attuned to. Rather difficult having never been to one of the outer planes. or b) a god highjacks your science experiment trying to create a portal to transport you from one tower of high sorcery to another. This is sure to put a cramp in your experiment, because now you have to put seemingly impossible conditions to activate portal. |
