#1nightside_samuraiJul 08, 2007 17:57:49 | In my new campaign, I'm planning on having an NPC Kender who is addicted to some kind of drug. I'm thinking that maybe his natural curiousity got the better of him and he's now unable to leave the world of addiction behind. I was looking through the BOVD and none of the stuff there seems right for the DL setting and I know I've read in books (specifically the trilogy about James Markham) that there are potent drugs in the DL world. Are there any resources for this, or am I stuck making it up as I go along? The campaign will probably feature a seedier look at Palanthas and the people in it, so it doesn't have to be a sunshine and lollipops idea. Thanks peeps :D |

#3nightside_samuraiJul 08, 2007 21:59:00 | That was my first thought too, but I have a pretty mature group and I want to present them with choices. I've just introduced him as a grubby looking twitchy Kender slumming around the refugee camp where the PCs have just been interned in. The Kender has just approached our 9 year old Wizard (yeah I know but she's good at it) and is starting up conversation. I plan on having him try and sell her something to cover his recent expenses and then draw the party in that way. After that it's up to them what they do to Myron (that's the addict) and to his "provider". I just want something that goes with the setting but I'm drawing a blank. |
#4zombiegleemaxJul 08, 2007 22:42:36 | Try Kender Leaf (as in Lord of the Rings, Halfling Leaf). He likes to smoke alot. I would just invent a drug and give it the quality that you are looking for. |
#5zombiegleemaxJul 08, 2007 22:58:34 | Is he an afflicted or a regular kender? |
#6lancereaverJul 09, 2007 4:02:06 | Ooh, good question, Trey. If he was afflicted, he might be smoking to take away the fear, but if he's not afflicted, then he's just plain out curious. |
#7nightside_samuraiJul 09, 2007 7:30:05 | He's not afflicted. He's lived in Palanthas most of his life but before he could start wandering he got in with the wrong crowd and never left home. The other Kender view him with pity but they don't have the attention span to do anything about it and the other races don't really care about Kender, so he's stuck in his current situation. |
#8zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2007 16:52:36 | Just have him go to a cleric of Mishakel. |
#9cam_banksJul 10, 2007 17:34:18 | Just have him go to a cleric of Mishakel. Or, alternately, a cleric of Mishakal. Cheers, Cam |
#10lancereaverJul 10, 2007 19:18:10 | Was that your subtle way of correcting Trey's spelling error, Cam?;) |
#11nightside_samuraiJul 10, 2007 19:44:45 | But the few Clerics are busy keeping the rich from getting ill after the influx of "filthy" refugees. Besides in my timeline, the Gods have only returned about a year ago so Clerics are still few and far between. I've basically made a crazy mush of all my favorite parts of DL and then made them the norm for my world. I did keep spontaneous casting out of the game, I just can't see it in my DL. Also, an update on the situation: Myron the Kender has just gotten caught stealing the Wizard's coin pouch and the Barbarian has made him return the loot and then let him go. The Druid in the party has her Bison keeping an eye on where he goes and the party Rogue is also keeping tabs on him. |
#12zombiegleemaxJul 11, 2007 8:12:11 | What level is the party> |
#13nightside_samuraiJul 11, 2007 8:41:20 | All level 1. If they don't go after him within the next round or so, they won't be able to track him through the city without some lucky rolls. I plan on having them run into him and seeing what happened to him when they let him go and didn't follow. If they follow right away, well I haven't decided yet |
