#1terminus_vortexaJul 11, 2007 8:09:28 | Does anybody have any info on poisons especially useful against psionicists? I'm specifically looking for a poison to overcome that pesky (but sometimes oh-so-useful) fact that tying up a psionic character just makes them very angry and does nothing to prevent them from frying you and your whole unprepared crew. ( i had my players thinking they were doomed (tied up and on the way to Dregoth's place in Guistenal) when one made the realization "Hey, I'm a Psion! I don't need my hands free to kill these Dray!" and proceeded to ruin all my carefully made plans with a Hail of Crystals and a slew of energy powers). I already knew this, but wasn't saying anything. If they don't read the books I lend them carefully, that just gives me)an absolutely cruel DM) more ways to thicken the plot. So...... Psion prrof poisons? Any poison that prevents or inhibits psionics is what I need. Help me out!:D |
#2methvezemJul 11, 2007 8:49:17 | Here's an excerpt from the upcoming Athasian Emporium. The price and the Craft DC will be available in the AE. Enjoy! Psionocus venom: The sleep-inducing venom of the psionocus produces a deep and restless slumber. While the victim sleeps, they lose 2 power points (if applicable) each round that they are asleep. Unlike poisons that cause unconsciousness or paralysis, victims of psionocus poisoning can be awoken through jostling or other natural means, although they must still save against the secondary effect unless the poison is somehow neutralized, as normal. Random displays: This poison, crafted from fermented esperweed sap, damages the mind of the victim. In addition, this poison causes the displays from the victims known powers to go off randomly. Every minute for the next 2d10 minutes, the victim must make a successful DC 15 Will save. A failed save indicates that a random psionic display will be manifested, depleting the character of one power point. This spell is used by bards against psions, and by templars when trying to subdue those with psionic powers. Single-mindedness: This poison is used against psions and psychic warriors, for the express purpose of forcing them to use a power that will make them vulnerable in combat. Crafted from berries collected in the Cresent Forest, it lowers the victims willpower. In addition, it reduces a psionic character arsenal of powers to one. The first power manifested after the poison is administered will become the only power the victim can manifest from then on and for the next 7 days. No matter what power he tries to manifest, it will always uncousciously be the same power, along with the accompanying power point cost, augmented as it was initially by the manifester. |

I don't now about poisons, and I see that Methvezem has already provided some. But won't blindfolding the PC solve your problem as well. If he is tied up and blindfolded he cannot see targets to use his powers on. And if he does try to randomly hurl powers about, you get to describe the screams of pain and surprise as he decimates not only the enemy but the other PCs as well.:P |
#5cnahumckJul 11, 2007 10:34:11 | There are ways around not being able to see (touchsight, Clarivisual powers, etc.) You might want to go with a magic or psionic item that dampens the persons ability to use psionics. I know I saw them somewhere, can't remember where. Similar to shifter-manacles that don't allow people to teleport or plane shift. |
#6cskJul 11, 2007 11:08:05 | There are ways around not being able to see (touchsight, Clarivisual powers, etc.) The easiest way is probably just a strong knock on the head. If they aren't awake, they aren't using powers. |
#7terminus_vortexaJul 11, 2007 11:23:22 | In certain circumstances, items to do this could be useful. But I'm looking for a poison, because of certain plot elements I'm adopting into my game. The PCs could never slap an item onto the foe they are going to face (for a HUGE bounty), but they could just slip the appropriate poison into his beverage at a tavern, or shoot him with a poison dart. I'd prefer to go with beverage, because then they can just get in a tavern-brawl and take him out in the confusion, or else just wait for his drunk self to wander outside, when they assault him, he'll waste those crucial first seconds trying to manifest a power, and they can capture him then. |
#8terminus_vortexaJul 11, 2007 11:25:27 | Plus, they can't interrogate him if he's unconscious, so no knock on the head. I need the appropriate poison for another reason, the PCs are going to get double-crossed by the guy paying the bounty, and he wants to interrogate them as well. SO, no loss of consciousness. Just a poison that prevents the user from manifesting powers for a while |
