#1zombiegleemaxJul 23, 2007 0:13:40 | Alright, I have become a Cerulean wizard in a Dark Sun campaign with my friends. This prestige class comes from Athas.org, the offical Dark Sun website. But there is one class attribute that seems to have different interpretations with my group that it is throwing us off. If someone could explain this class ability it would be most appreciated. Cerulean Wizard Level 1 Special Ability Cerulean Casting: Ceruleans have discovered how to draw energy from the Cerulean storm to fuel their spells. They can choose whether to utilize plant energy or cerulean energy when casting spells. Cerulean energy has no impact on the environment. What is the true purpose of this? One of my group members believe it even could be defiling using the storm. Clarify? |

Basically it means you can ignore the rules for defiling and preseving if you want. For a Defiler you can defile or use the storm to power your spells. |

#4ZardnaarJul 23, 2007 2:44:21 | So, if I didn't have this ability, using spells without defiling would harm the environment? Not if you are a preserver. |
#5jon_oracle_of_athasJul 25, 2007 14:40:12 | You cannot "defile" the storm. The storm is a substitute for plant energy, which means the question of defiling and preserving is irrelevant, and you ignore terrain modifiers associated with using plant energy. |
#6ruhl-than_sageJul 26, 2007 15:20:09 | you ignore terrain modifiers associated with using plant energy. that's the key benefit if your character is a preserver with the PrC. So you could cast spells without penalty when the terrain would other hamper your ability. If you are a Defiler the key benefit is that you can cast spells without defiling (since defilers normally cannot do that). Either way you might opt to draw plant energy instead because of beneficial terrain modifers. Or because you want to defile... perhaps to ruin another spellcaster's energy source :evillaugh |
#7zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2007 10:36:58 | Or because you want to **** off that annyoing druid... As far as I can tell, using the storm as your source of energy actually allows you to cast spells like a wizard in FR, Eberron, Greyhawk, etc. You just donĀ“t care about the terrain/plants/whatever (any longer). Not that this will stop anyone from hunting you down for being a wizard... |
