Hi everyone. I posted this question at the D&D forum and was told to try here. Hopefully some of you are familiar with a weapon called Wyrmslayer (a magical elven crafted longsword). It has elven script etched into the blade and the crosspiece looks like an eagle's beak. It gives off a humming sound when it gets within thirty feet of a true chromatic dragon.

I have the history and magical abilities of the sword, but I was wondering how this could apply to the 3.5 d20 system. Does anyone know the cost of this weapon in GP, what's the damage for S, M, Critical, and what's the weight?

Also if you have any info about what the modifiers are for battling draconians with this sword, that would be great.

I think this may be covered in the DL campaign book but I dont have that yet.

Thanks for your help.

The 3.5 stats for Wyrmslayer, along with a few other magical items, can be found in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting. It's a +3 dragon bane longsword that also gives a resistance bonus to saves against dragons' breath weapons and spells, and that buzzes loudly whenever a true dragon (chomatic or metallic) is within 30 feet.

No price is given. As for the damage, critical threat, and weight, it's all listed under longsword in the Player's handbook.

Draconians are also of the dragon type so they suffer the effects of the weapon being a dragon bane weapon as well as dragons. Being a dragon bane weapon also makes the weapon immune to the death effects of the draconian death throes, War of the Lance sourcebook page 54.

If I understand it correctly, Wrymsbane and Wyrmslayer are considered artifacts arent they?

Thanks a lot - I appreciate it. This is to help us with a small campaign of five adventures based in Darken Wood. Unfortunately I dont yet have the 'Dragonlance Campaign Setting' book.

So the magical abilities aside, I'll just use the standard longsword attributes then...

Longsword - slashing - 1d6 (S) - 1d8 (M) - 19–20/x2 (Crit) - 4 lb

Cheers.

I believe so. If not they should be.

They're unique magic items with no given price or rules for creation. So, although they're kinda weak when compared to the DMG's artifacts, I guess they could be considered lesser artifacts.

Whenever I come across a magic item without a price listed I consider it an artifact and the way I determine lesser or greater is based on whether it lists a caster level. Some items even though they do not have a price listed sometimes have a caster level listed, those items I consider a lesser artifact. THe items that have no price and no caster level I consider greater artifacts. That is how I determine them. Of course I could be wrong but hey, oh well.

Their histotical significance also has something to do with it I would think.

I came up with this system by following the example set in the DMG. If you will look Trey, the minor artifacts have a caster level, and the major artifacts don't.

No problem man. It surprised me when I first realized too. But the system works, I think.

Not so well. Right now most of my efforts are being put into preparing for moving. My wife's family is having some medical problems and her mom might not be for this world much longer, hence the move.

I am still working on finding an online chat room type of setting rather than the play by post website night_side directed me to. Nothing wrong with play-by-post, it just does not feel the same to me. I did find the chat service that I had previously played on, but they are now charging for the service and that I would prefer to avoid if I could.

I have the first four or five encounters I want for the campaign and I have the general outline of the campaign, but putting the details together and what I want the PCs to accomplish in between is giving me a little grief.

Hey Darth, try Chatzy.com, that's where I get my Harry Potter role-playing done. I don't think it's exclusively for that though.

Was Tanis buried with Wyrmslayer or Wyrmsbane?

I'm not trying to derail the subject anymore, but I'm not starting a new thread just for this. I just wanted to say I got the first two Dark Disciple books the other day.

I think it was Wyrmsbane as he got wyrmslayer in Pax Tharkas and was forced to leave in the Red Dragon when fleeing Tarsis, I think it was Wyrmsbane that he got later and was able to hold on to throughout his life (WoTL sourcebook pg 55).

Sturm and the others were able to retain possesion of wyrmslayer when they left Tarsis, but it was taken when they reached the elves on Southern Ergoth

Wyrmslayer was last seen when it was confiscated from the companions in Qualin-Mori (WoTL sourcebook pg. 55).

But did he keep the sword that Alhana Starbreeze gave him?

That was Wyrmsbane, I believe, and he kept that for the rest of his life.

Cheers,
Cam

So it is in the Tomb that he and Steel and Caramon's boys are buried?
