#1tanning_salon_templarJul 29, 2007 23:09:58 | Hello: Is the Resherek Merchant House, the Jura Dai elf tribe or the settlement of Kled mentioned in any Dark Sun products outside of the original Dark Sun Campaign Setting Box / A Little Knowledge adventure? Thanks in advance! |
#2j0ltJul 30, 2007 2:47:31 | Kled appears on several (but not all) of the maps floating around on the internet. I'm pretty sure the Resherek and Jurai Dai are only used in the original box set. |
#3hunterccJul 30, 2007 10:44:17 | Kled and the Jura Dai were mentioned in at least two of the novels, the titles of which escape me at the moment |
#4pavekJul 30, 2007 17:44:36 | The Jura Dai were used extensively in the novel The Darkness Before the Dawn by Ryan Hughes. The village of Kled appears in at least one of Troy Dennings Dark Sun novels as well. I can't remember which ones, sorry. |

#6tanning_salon_templarJul 30, 2007 22:56:27 | Thanks for the replies j0lt, huntercc, Pavek and squidfur-! I am planning to DM a Dark Sun game for the first time in the next few weeks. I have been working on fleshing out A Little Knowledge (I am unenthusiastic about the player picture flip book idea or the lack of detail in the DM's adventure book). Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to read any of the Dark Sun novels. According to Beyond the Prism Pentad, the Freedom adventure (which I intend to run next) corresponds to the events in Troy Denning's The Verdant Passage. So, in all likelihood I will read that before I run the Freedom adventure. Is there any information presented in the novels mentioned above about Kled, House Resherek or the Jura Dai that would directly enhance or detract from my players' experience with A Little Knowledge? |
#7squidfur-Jul 31, 2007 0:46:32 | Jura Dai and House Resherek....not really. But there's a decent amount of info on Kled in the Crimson Legion, which details the layout of the city, and a little of its history. Also of note - a map does exist...and at one time, could be found on the well regarded Dark Sun Rising site (the site creator has unfortunately passed away, but perhaps someone here can provide said map????) |

I have been working on fleshing out A Little Knowledge (I am unenthusiastic about the player picture flip book idea or the lack of detail in the DM's adventure book). IMO, the best way to run them is to treat each as being as generic as possible. You can more or less wing it the first time around, but keep notes of what you do so that you don't contradict yourself later. For example: The Jura Dai are about as typical as Elf raiding tribes come. They have a decently powerful defiler, as well as a psionicist. Beyond that, you can make them more or less how you want by adding your own hand-made NPCs. House Resherek, I'm not too familiar with, but since you're using them for the campaign opening, I'd make them an average run-of-the-mill trading house that just happens to deal in slaves (among other things). Kled is barely detailed in the adventure, but I think it gives an approximate population, which you can use to extrapolate info using the city building rules found in the DMG (or if you have cityscape, those ones would work as well). I recently ran my first DS adventure (one-shot), and I more or less took the plot from the first half of the Aladdin movie. (cave of wonders and all that jazz) Players figured it out right after their boss trapped them in the cave. :D |
#9tanning_salon_templarJul 31, 2007 21:15:46 | Thanks for the comments. I did a bit of research and found a map of Kled on http://darksun.com.br/download.php?tp=4. Does anyone have an English version of this map? Are the other English maps from the old Dark Sun Rising site posted somewhere? Wisdom of the Drylanders (http://www.athas.org/releases/wisdom/WotDLv2.pdf) mentions the Jura-Dai, which are also known as the Silt Stalkers. Interestingly enough, the Silt Stalkers are in the Elves of Athas book… |
#10j0ltAug 01, 2007 5:26:10 | Wait, the Jura Dai are the Silt Stalkers?! Crap, I gotta start paying more attention! lol |
#11squidfur-Aug 02, 2007 19:51:16 | Wait, the Jura Dai are the Silt Stalkers?! This was more a leap of faith than anything officially recognized (well, before WotDL came out). The problem is that the Jura Dai are only shown as being active in the region between Urik and Tyr - and if fact maintain a permanent base in that region (an oddity in and of itself). The Silt Stalkers, on the otherhand, are primarily active east of Nibenay, roaming even into the ruins of Giustenal. Tanning Salon Templar -- send me an email...that's the map i was referring to, and, indeed, i do have it, just didn't realize i saved it. AND mine is in english, yay!!! |
