#1dasch_dupAug 26, 2007 17:30:27 | I am working on a new timeline of Athas for my campaign. I have corrected the Free Year numbering inaccuracies as well as added to the timeline to provide clarity. This is a work in progress and I am hoping some of you will review it and let me know of any problems my added material might have with points that I may have overlooked. All entries that are in red are either heavily altered or added by myself. All entries in italics were altered from the timeline, possibly slightly redirecting the meaning of the original entry. All negative dates were corrected to account for the math error present in the original timeline. I also calculated for a FY 0. - FY -14,577 (WA 001.01) Year of Ral’s Fury Begin First World’s Age Creation of the World’s Age calendar by the Rhulisti. - FY -14,294 (WA 004.53) Year of Ocean’s Slumber A group of corrupt Nature-Masters are found to be conducting immoral life-shaping experiments. This group is dubbed the Nature-Benders. - FY -14,273 (WA 004.74) Year of King’s Slumber First elemental clerics appear on Athas. - FY -14,271 (WA 004.76) Year of Enemy’s Reverence Evil elemental clerics and the Nature-Benders form an alliance. - FY -14,102 (WA 007.14) Year of Island’s Agitation The war between the Nature-Masters and the Nature-Benders begins. - FY -14,071 (WA 007.45) Year of Ral’s Vengeance The war between the Nature-Masters and the Nature-Benders ends with the defeat of the evil elemental clerics and the Nature-Benders. - FY -14,030 (WA 008.09) Year of Ocean’s Contemplation The Tyr’agi Nature-Masters begin life-shaping experiments to develop a new organism that would double the ocean’s productivity. - FY -14,027 (WA 008.12) Year of Ral’s Defiance During a surprise attack on Tyr’agi by a group of Nature-Benders, an experimental organism is accidentally released into the World Ocean. The organism spreads rapidly throughout the waters surrounding the city, voraciously consuming all, leaving in its wake a brown tide. The Nature-Masters work feverishly to contain the catastrophe but, by the end of the year, famine, disease, and the inability of life-shaped structures to withstand the Brown Tide bring about a total collapse of Rhulisti civilization. - FY -14,026 (WA 008.13) Year of Friend’s Reverence In a final attempt to save their race, the surviving Nature-Masters construct the Pristine Tower. They use the tower to focus the sun’s energy to destroy the Brown Tide. In the process, the sun changes color from blue to yellow and the World Ocean is boiled down revealing Athas’ continents for the first time. Knowing their world has changed beyond their capacity to evolve with it, the Nature-Masters turn their life-shaping skills upon themselves beginning the Rebirth. - FY -14,025 (WA 008.14) Year of Island’s Agitation Aided by the energies contained within the Pristine Tower, the newly life-shaped plants and animals rapidly spread over the exposed continents and with them travel the new races of the Rebirth – humans, gnomes, dwarves, elves, and others. Tyr, Bodach, and Giustenal are founded. - FY -13,965 (WA 008.74) Year of King’s Slumber High Lord Rhan Thes-onel, Ruler of the Rhul-thaun, departs the Jagged Cliffs at the head of an expedition to locate any surviving Rhulisti. He is never heard from again. - FY -13,962 (WA 008.77) Year of Guthay’s Agitation First use of Psionics by the new races. - FY -13961 (KA 009.01) Year of Ral’s Fury World’s Age Calendar renamed the King’s Age calendar by the leaders of various cities. Begin ninth King’s Age. - FY -13849 (KA 011.43) Year of Enemy’s Fury Birth of Rajaat the War-Bringer. - FY -10386 (KA 055.34) Year of Ral’s Reverence The thri-kreen migration to the Tablelands from the west begins. The king of Tyr allows them to settle in his lands. The reason for the migration is unknown. - FY -8603 (KA 078.46) Year of Friend’s Slumber The ruler of Urik initiates wide scale persecutions of thri-kreen. The thri-kreen of Urik are killed and elsewhere thri-kreen leave the cities to live in the wilderness. The thri-kreen migration comes to a halt. - FY -8376 (KA 081.42) Year of Ocean’s Agitation Rajaat determines to conduct experiments with life energy. He chooses a lush forest at the base of the Jagged Cliffs where the spark of life is especially vibrant. - FY -8168 (KA 084.19) Year of King’s Defiance Over the preceding decades, Rajaat gradually discovers the basics of magic by drawing energy from plants and animals. Seeking a greater power source, Rajaat attempts to tap into the life-force of Athas. Unable to control it, Rajaat unleashes a powerful storm of raw energy into the surrounding region, nearly destroying himself in the process. His idyllic forest is altered into a foul swamp. - FY -8167 (KA 084.20) Year of Ocean’s Reverence After his recovery, Rajaat leaves the swamp and begins researching the ancient Rhulisti art of life-shaping. Rajaat travels amongst the feral halfling tribes gathering old rituals and bits of folklore until his studies lead him to the Pristine Tower. There, he befriends a tribe of halflings descended from the last of the Tyr’agi Nature-Masters. Even though their knowledge is incomplete, the halflings help Rajaat unlock the secrets of the tower. - FY -7889 (KA 087.67) Year of Ral’s Slumber An unknown disaster destroys the city of Celik. Survivors blame the devastation on the reckless use of psionics. - FY -5113 (KA 123.71) Year of Wind’s Fury The feral halfling scout Too’lane discovers the Last Tree atop a mountain in the Forest Ridge. Its location is a closely guarded secret. - FY -4975 (KA 125.55) Year of Guthay’s Reverence Rajaat leaves the Pristine Tower after refining the process of magic for over 3000 years. Traveling to all the great cities of the age, he founds schools in each of them thus ushering in the Time of Magic. His schools teach mages the path of the preserver admonishing their students to be cautious and not to defile the land. By the end of this age, his influence and political power can be felt in almost every sphere. He is hailed as a hero of the people and as the greatest thinker of this age. - FY -4960 (KA 125.70) Year of Priest’s Agitation A high profile defiling incident involving some of Rajaat’s students causes widespread panic as crops around the small city of Tingazi are destroyed. Upon hearing the news of this, Rajaat imposes harsh penalties on those found to not be following the path of the preserver. He also spearheads the relief effort ensuring the Tingazians have enough food until their crops can be replanted. Instead of damaging Rajaat’s reputation, this incident only increases his prestige. - FY -4834 (KA 127.42) Year of Ocean’s Agitation An unknown scandal at Rajaat’s School in Yoram causes a public outcry. Rajaat takes this opportunity to review the staff and students at each of his schools throughout Athas. Rajaat dismisses most of them and personally takes charge of reviewing all future admissions. Allegations of conspiracy, by those dismissed, fall on deaf ears. - FY -4833 (KA 127.43) Year of Enemy’s Fury After the great purge of the year of Ocean’s Agitation, Rajaat secretly refocuses the objective of his schools. Outwardly there are no noticeable changes, however, inwardly Rajaat’s students begin to learn the path of the defiler and destructive spells as they are forged for a purpose even they do not comprehend. - FY -4287 (KA 134.50) Year of Dragon’s Fury. Rajaat begins a covert campaign to discredit all wizards not under his direct control. For the next decade, Rajaat’s defilers randomly defile arable lands, ****, murder, and destroy whole communities in the name of these free agents. During many staged attacks, Rajaat’s students miraculously appear at the last moment to save the helpless victims. The preservers are helpless to stem the tide of public opinion against them. Rajaat and his students are viewed as a bastion of lawfulness and valor amidst the chaos. - FY -4273 (KA 134.63) Year of King’s Agitation. After gaining the public’s support to stop the “evil” preservers once and for all, Rajaat begins a jihad against them. Preservers all across the land go into hiding while fighting a losing battle against the followers of Rajaat. (Wide scale ecological destruction of Athas begins. The Sunrise Sea begins to become the Sea of Silt. Rajaat founds a school where his best students are taught to mix psionics and defiling magic. The preservers are broken. Rajaat becomes de facto ruler of most of Athas. The people begin to distrust Rajaat. ) - FY -3530 (KA 144.74) Year of King’s Slumber Rajaat gathers the best of his students to him. Informing them of their purpose to return Athas to the glories it once knew during the Blue Age and leading them to believe they would rule over it, he uses the Pristine Tower and the Dark Lens to change them into the Champions. Each of his Champions are given orders to carry out genocide on one specific race each, excepting only humans, halflings, and thri-kreen. The Cleansing Wars begin. |
