I am fully aware that many threads about Irikos exist on these boards. I have reviewed all of them, that I could find, and decided to start a new thread. I have gathered all the facts I know of about Irikos and have labeled each one with its reference. Here they are:

*Rajaat gave Irikos the Silencer, Myron the Scorcher, and Borys the Scourge (PAoA pg26)
*Irikos was the "Left-Hand of Rajaat" & Myron was the "Right-Hand of Rajaat" during Rajaat's war with the preservers. (PAoA pg26)
*This war was before the Cleansing Wars. (PAoA pg26)

After analyzing these statements, one may conclude that Myron was first in command of Rajaat's armies during the war against the preservers. Irikos was second and Borys was third.

*Irikos' ancient duty was to destroy the race of orcs. (BoA pg98)
*Abalach-Re, the 5th Champion, was assigned the genocide of the orcs. (DSCS.tWC pg15)
*Rajaat crafted three mighty weapons to give to his most favored champions before he created the Champions. (PAoA pg26)
*Irikos was a human defiler and warlord. (BoA pg98)

Now we see that Irikos was not a Champion but just a champion of Rajaat's during his war with the Preservers. Abalach-Re is a Champion and, like Irikos, both are charged with the annihilation of the orcs. Irikos, not having the necessary psionic abilities to become a Champion, was placed as the general of Abalach-Re's armies.

*After the orcs were all dead, Irikos began a campaign against all those not in service to Rajaat.(BoA pg98)
*Irikos destroys Bodach while defilers and preservers are warring.
*Rajaat's jihad against the preservers of Athas ends before the Cleansing Wars. (DSToA)

So, after Irikos' part in the death of the orcs, he leaves Abalach-Re's service. Rajaat then sends Irikos to start a campaign against his enemies, the preservers. This campaign is not Rajaat's original war against them, but another war to quell a few preserver uprisings. Just another campaign of the Cleansing Wars.

*Irikos, at the head of a vast host, destroys Bodach's armies and attacks the city. (BoA pg98)
*The last and most powerful sorcerers of Bodach kill Irikos. (BoA pg98)
*Irikos sacks Bodach, but is killed at the conclusion of the battle. (DSToA)

Easy enough, Irikos marches on Bodach and, at the very moment of his victory, is killed by Bodachian sorcerers.

I have only found one statement that contradicts all of the other facts I have found. PAoA, page 26, states that Irikos died before the Cleansing Wars. It is the only inconsistency and is easily solved. Most of us know that the work in this manual was very sloppy in regards to the true history of Athas and since this statement is dialectically opposed to several other sources it is incorrect.

Abbreviations:
*BoA = Book of Artifacts
*DSCS.WC = Dark Sun Campaign Setting: The Wanderer's Chronicle
*DSToA = Dark Sun Timeline of Athas
*PAoA = Psionic Artifacts of Athas

Oh no!! Let the war begin. :P
Very well put together, but keep in mind that the subject of Irikos has always been a touchy subject.

On the "champion" vs. "Champion" thing - this particular entry was one of the things that I noticed some time ago, in a search for information that would confirm Irikos's status (as to whether he was a former Champion or not). I tried argueing his status to at least a couple other people to no avail. So, hopefully, having another voice to back up my opinion will help the idea cary some weight now.

never heard of him or i completely forgot. sounds great thanks for posting his background. i'm gonna have to save it and use it later in a game!

again thanks!

One question, isnt it possible that he did infact die but Rajaat brough him back to life? i have no idea of his story but i know a bit about death and resurrection and rajaat is capable. just a thought.

The problem with that is that Rajaat never looked too kindly on failure. Not to mention the fact that Rajaat WANTED him, along with all other humans, dead - eventually.
