I'm thinking about an Assimar, just wanting to see the general feeling before I approach a DM about it. Also, in general whats normal for 3.5 "splat" books being used in dark sun? Are they generally not used? |
#2SysaneSep 12, 2007 12:04:12 | Personally, I wouldn't allow Assimar as a PC choice as it is in the MM. I'd would try to steer a player into playing Gensi which I feel is more in tune with DS. However, I'd consider allowing Assimar if spun with different fluff. I'd tie their bloodline to an Avangion rather than to a celestial. As a side note. Back in 2e I had introduced a female Assimar NPC bent on killing Dregoth who had slain her celestial grandfather during his time in the outer planes. I had major Planescape ties to my old DS campaign which I later regretted in the following years. |

My first DS character was more or less a Catfolk (used the stats for a half-elf and just called it a cat-like humanoid) Fighter/Thief. He got chased out of two different city-states because he was such a klepto. :P |
#7denbyakSep 13, 2007 7:43:28 | You could also use the fact that some ancient races might of survived the cleansing. I tended to develop alot of new races during 2e so players that have played for so long have other choices. I find for older players its the oddities and weird char concepts that let them have fun just as much as a challenge. |
#8SysaneSep 13, 2007 9:54:53 | You could always introduce other races with a change to their fluff, and in some cases, their names. Half-Orges could be easly explained as being the offshoot of a tarek and dwarf. Avariel could be a crossbreed of a kenku and Aarakocra. You get the picture. The possibilities are endless with enough effort and creativity. |
#9zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2007 21:32:50 | I called them Mongrel men. A mix of strange races. I can choose several "Traits" in return for penalties, etc. I think there's something in the Monster 2nd Edition book. |
#10zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2007 22:42:40 | sounds a bit like Broken Ones from 2e MM. i used a clan of broken ones who wonder around the pristine tower hoping to one day gain entry and repair their bodies and minds. |
#11zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2007 1:52:35 | If you've ever looked at Dark Sun art, from the books, you'll see a lot of strange creaters that aren't covered in the rules. What on Athas is this guy? |
