Almost all the other nations in the Known World have been influenced by the Empire of Thyatis in one way or another - either by being a former colony or by warfare. Military prowess is greatly honored here, but other professions are not shunned. Think of Thyatis as the Roman Empire at its height of power, complete with a large army, gladiatorial arenas, corrupt senators, etc. Any type of adventure can be found within the borders of the Empire - one only has to know where to go, what to do, or who to bribe.

In Thyatis En Garde! a player finds himself born into and educated in a world where social climbing is a way of life, and status is a goal to be pursued even over money. There are people to be used, friends in high places to be cultivated, enemies to be humiliated, lackeys to be abused, and the ear of the Emperor to be gained.

There is a lot more that can be done with this game, but I would like to throw this out there to see if there is any interest for an En Garde! game based in Thyatis City and to get some feedback on the rough draft ruleset.

Those of you on the MML, please pass the word along. If/when this succeeds, the more players, the merrier.

I'm too busy to commit to anything like this at the moment, but thanks for sharing the site with us

It's been a fun experiment to see if I could get it to work. There are still things I'm not happy with but...gotta start somewhere.

And as for not having time - that's completely understandable. However, many En Garde! games do a turn (a game month) every 2-4 weeks (sometimes longer) in real time. It's not a terribly fast paced game, but it has a lot of potential for role-playing and interacting with the other players.

Even if it never gets off the ground, I've enjoyed spending the time to make Thyatis City become a living and breathing city. Since I usually focus on Karameikos, it's been fun to branch out and go into insane detail...a habit I usually reserve for obscure Traladaran people/places/things. :D

Okay, I admit I'm a little disappointed. Oh well. I will continue to mess around with this (will probably be a never ending project). However, I'll leave the link in my sig and remind everyone that I'm still open to comments/questions/playtesters, as well as give occasional updates (nothing too obnoxious, I promise).

The rules for the Senate are in progress, but I haven't linked them up yet as I'm not happy enough with what I have to release it yet. More to follow.

I've never thought about doing something like that before. I'll be quite interested in what you come with.

Senate rules are causing me difficulties. However, I had a bit of an epiphany this week as I found some great rules from another game to tweak for the Minister of Trade assignment as well as for domestic investments and foreign trade expeditions. It allows characters to invest in trading ventures to other cities around the Known World. By adapting the merchant rules from the Darokin and Minrothad gazetteers, I was able to come up with something that I'm rather happy with. Not sure if it will work in practice, but that can be worried about later.

The new rules have been added to the rules webpage.
