#1astrimedesOct 03, 2007 1:27:37 | A little while ago I drew a planar diagram for my game, to cement it in my and my players' heads how the planes work in 3.5 DS. I like how it turned out, and I thought I'd share it. I used the Athas.org D&D 3.5 to Dark Sun planar equivalences heavily to determine how I drew it. Dark Sun Cosmology I also have some desert-y pictures from Las Vegas in there that are kind of Athasian-looking. What are you guys' takes on how the Athasian planes generally function in your games? |

And I shall not even try to depict the Black, the Gray, the Ethereal, and the Astral planes all coexistent with the Prime Material, and the Gray separating the Ethereal and the Astral, but not separating the Black from the Prime Material, in neither two nor three-dimensional diagram. |

#6thebraxOct 03, 2007 23:59:42 | I also have some desert-y pictures from Las Vegas in there that are kind of Athasian-looking. Yeah, it's pretty Dark Sunnish around here. Maybe I'll host Brax Con II next year in Death Valley, about an hour from my house. |
#7astrimedesOct 04, 2007 1:02:21 | Grummore, thanks for the link. I somehow missed that when I was looking for information about DS cosmology. If I had found that, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of making my own diagram Thanks for the complement, Phoenix. Also: pictures of stark deserty stuff rule. Brax, do you have any pictures you've taken out there? Death Valley must be pretty amazing. |
#8jon_oracle_of_athasOct 04, 2007 13:03:16 | Yeah, it's pretty Dark Sunnish around here. Maybe I'll host Brax Con II next year in Death Valley, about an hour from my house Brax Con I rocked. It will be hard to top. |
#9cnahumckOct 04, 2007 13:16:13 | Bruno and I have talked about Chris Con 08... |
#10jon_oracle_of_athasOct 05, 2007 1:30:50 | Where would it be held? |
#11SysaneOct 05, 2007 7:04:21 | Its funny that you bring up Cons. My friends and I head down to a buddy's summer place on Cape Cod every Fall for "Cape Con" weekend. Its pretty much a geekfest where we predominately play one of our long standing campaigns (Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil) for 2-3 days straight of uninterrupted role-playing. In-between rolling dice, we watch the typical movie classics, (i.e. evil dead, conan, episodes of Chappelle's Show, etc...), play a game of Dungeon Quest, reminisce about past campaigns and drink beer. Its a blast to say the least. Its actually coming up this month. This will be our 3rd year of Cape Con. Its good to get away and be a dork for a few days ;) |
#12cnahumckOct 05, 2007 7:57:00 | Where would it be held? Chicago. If things go right, and Bruno can make it, we may run an adventure we are tossing back and forth. |
#13phoenix_mOct 10, 2007 9:51:56 | ...for 2-3 days straight of uninterrupted role-playing. Must be nice to be young and invulinerable :D I had a 14 hour game last week I thought was going to kill me. |
#14SysaneOct 10, 2007 10:32:44 | Must be nice to be young and invulinerable :D Ain't that young, but I hear where you're coming from. Large scale fights involving tons of minis can kill ya. |
#15terminus_vortexaOct 10, 2007 16:08:08 | I had a thought.....could it be that the Athasian Inner Planes are coterminous with the Prime Material (occupying different "dimensions" of the same space), and they are ALL inside the Grey, and this is why the Athasian inner planes are cut off from the rest of the inner planes? They're the exact same planes and dimension, but the Grey is in the way? |
#16xlorepdarkhelm_dupOct 10, 2007 18:18:00 | I had a thought.....could it be that the Athasian Inner Planes are coterminous with the Prime Material (occupying different "dimensions" of the same space), and they are ALL inside the Grey, and this is why the Athasian inner planes are cut off from the rest of the inner planes? They're the exact same planes and dimension, but the Grey is in the way? I tend to run with the notion that the Grey has cut everything off -- the inner planes, Athas, the Black.... all are trapped "within" the Grey, and severed from what they originally were part of (one exception -- I do permit that the Plane of Mirrors, a transitive plane, is still connected to things outside the Grey -- but how many mirrors are there [left] on Athas with the capability to traverse planes through them...? I can think of one in particular, offhand). Of course, I also rule in my campaigns that the Black used to be part of the Plane of Shadows (the part severed and left inside of the Grey), and that the Positive/Negative Energy Planes have become infused into the Elemental/Paraelemental planes (for Positive), or the Black/Grey (for Negative). I also tend to operate with the notion that the Grey is an anomalous fusion of the Ethereal and the Astral, and that it counts for both planes for Athas. |
